So I had to take my car to a Ford Performance shop up here (not my normal mechanic) because my serpentine belt needed to be replaced asap. While my car was there the mechanic said that when he was driving it, he could listen and tell that something wasn't right with my motor. He thought either a piston was broken, or something because I was loosing compression?? Anyways they recommended to do a compresion and leak down check. This is what they said the results were:
Cyl # Comp (psi) Leakage %
1 210 1
2 170 55
3 205 2
4 190 32
5 200 27
6 205 46
7 200 8
8 220 1
So they recommended I get a new motor... However, my little brother is a student at UTI and they did an emissions check and I almost passed (I have no cats). My quesion is if I had this much leakage wouldn't my emissions be a lot worse? Some of his professors listened to it as well and they said it was running perfect.
The motor has 82,000mi, and I have never noticed any problems with it. It has a vortech sq and full exhaust with a safe tune.
I'm just a little confused because this is supposed to be a reputable shop, and they seem to be pretty unethical charging me for something I didn't need.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
