X-Pipe and emissions

Ok another question. If I get an offroad x-pipe and MIL eliminators will I still be able to pass emissions? Last time I went they just plugged something into the ODB port and that was all, did'nt test the gas cap or stick that little pole into the exhaust.

Re: X-Pipe and emissions

Depends on the state...if all your state does is a diagnostic check and you have MIL eliminators you will be fine. If they do in fact do a sniff check...you most likely will not pass.

If you are deadset on running a O/R X, I'd recommend getting one with removable cats so you can at least have high flow cats for emissions time.

That's another idea, just more time consuming. I have come to hate exhaust on the IRS cars. I have straight pipes for my cats sitting on the table in front of the car, can't seem to get the cats out for the life of me (Bassani 5 piece X pipe). I refuse to take the catback back off, finally got it back straight.

Why do you hate the IRS exhaust? ****, 5 minutes to remove and install the catback. No messing with the damn rear axel.

The middle hangers never want to go back on. Removal is 2 minutes, but reinstalling those center hangers is the worst headache known to man. I think it's just my catback though, never had issues with other people's. I'm not the only one who has problems with mine, two of my friends fought the passenger side for 30 minutes before giving up.

Middle hangers? Hmm....I'll have to see what troubles I have with mine when I do my headers when they get back from Jet Hot. I'll be doing the nerd thing and polishing my cat back while they are gone...so I'll see if I have issues. The biggest PITA I have with it is getting the pipes to not bump the diff and getting the tips centered (they are a good bit off right now and it is driving me nuts).

I don't have problems with the hangers closest to the mufflers, nor the rear hangers on the tips, it's always the one inbetween. Never wants to fit right.

Re: X-Pipe and emissions

Ok so I found this online.

All 1996 and newer vehicles will receive a two-part inspection.

* An OBD test to check your vehicle’s emission control performance history.
* A fuel cap inspection to check for adequate seal.

If an OBD test is unable to be performed on a vehicle, it may be necessary to perform a Two-Speed Idle test (TSI).

So if I have my O/R X-pipe on I should be fine pending it throwing any codes right? What if the guy can smell the unburned fuel? Can he get under there and look at the cats?

Re: X-Pipe and emissions

with what you found, it sounds like they test the same by you as they do here. you will be fine with the off road x and mils. get it on the car and have fun, but do keep the stock pipe for a while. just in case you find something you don't like about the pipes

Re: X-Pipe and emissions

well that's why you need to keep the stock pipe if any problems arise.

Re: X-Pipe and emissions

Well, my dad went ahead and bought me a Borla Cat-Back, so I going to cut the cats off the stock pipe and slap them on the X.

An expensive lesson to learn, but hell I got a borla now.

Re: X-Pipe and emissions

You think the Borla will sound good? Even if I have to keep the stock H-pipe, cause the X-pipe is 2.5" diameter and the Borla is 2 1/4"?

Re: X-Pipe and emissions

Where did you find 2 1/4" borlas? I didn't realize they made those.

Once you typed Borla you could have stopped because the answer is yes...they will sound good.

Re: X-Pipe and emissions

I don't know...I was asking seriously. If they do make 2.25" kits then the sixers that go true duals need to look into that instead of the nasty *** sounding 2.5" kits that they always end up getting and can't fill the pipe with enough air to make it sound good.

Well, the part list includes clamps for 2.5" and 2.25" so, I have no idea. Looking on Google now. Nothing is helping
