Talking head work

i need to replace the valve stem seals. have read somewhere before that the seals go bad about 130k on these engines. mine has 140k...i'm fairly good with a wrench, so i want to do it myself. anyone have a write up on doin this & exactly what tools i have to have? far as i know it can be done with the heads still on the engine. would appreciate any help guys. thanks...

Re: head work

well to answer your question. your gonna need the tool to lock the cam gear in place so you can remove the cam. than your gonna need a comp. tester hose so you can pressure the cylinder with shop to hold the valve in place when you remove the valve spring. and last you will need a valve spring compressor tool to remove the valve springs, also you will need a pencile magnet to remove the valve locks. It's not an easy job but you can do it in a days time. also if you plan on camming the motor in the future I suggest upgrading the springs and retainers while they are out

Re: head work

thanks for the help guys. would rather find pi heads & intake, but kinda scarce around here. no wrecked stangs in the bone yards. what's an average price to pay for those things?

Re: head work

make sure u have either the romeo or windsor engine, im pretty sure u should have the romeo. u can check your vin to make sure, then get pi parts for the same line engine ie- romeo npi -romeo pi. that way u can reuse your vavle covers etc. the parts to do everything shouldnt cost u no more than 4-500.00.
