Re: 5.1 Stroker Hp?

500 hp N/A from a stroked 2 valve at 9.5 compression sounds a bit high...but I guess that could be right if you are looking at block HP and not RWHP.

However, if 500 is right, then only 100 hp gain from forced induction sounds quite low....unless they are giving you numbers for say a 6-8 psi setup for the lower number.

The long block is about 6,700. I think it's a good price considering my 4.6 blew at 29k!

Re: 5.1 Stroker Hp?

If you are interested in another long block, I know where you can get remanned 03/04 cobra long blocks for $3100 shipped to your door. These are the same as the 03/04 cobra motors only bored .020 over. If you can find a blown 4 valve 4.6L motor, you won't have to pay the $2000 core charge. Also, the 3100 includes return shipping of your core as well.

Note: These motors are straight from ford and come with a warranty.

Re: 5.1 Stroker Hp?

I want to say yes, you can tune the 4 valve with the 2 valve computer...I'll see if I can find where I read about doing it. In fact, I believe that Gabe (modular2valve) told me about this as he found that he will be able to use his 96 2v computer with his 5.4L 4 valve motor when he does the swap.

EDIT:

I'm also going to go back and see what their 2 valve long blocks were and what components were in them. My source is a ford dealership that sells all ford parts are 10% over cost...except the cobra motors are only about 4% over cost.

Re: 5.1 Stroker Hp?

Do you know what the HP would be on a 4v? My 02 had 302 crank hp before my oil pump broke. I'd like to be around 500 N/A this spring.

Re: 5.1 Stroker Hp?

Well, if you went with the cobra long block you would probably be looking at around 320 crank. I don't know exactly what they are rated N/A but they come with 8.5 compression, so they are not really designed for N/A power.

If you are after N/A power, than an aftermarket motor is definitely what you are going to want so you can bring the compression up.

Now, this HP goal of yours...is it motor power or wheel power? 500 rwhp N/A out of a 4.6L is going to be tough even stroked out to 5.1L. For the sake of insulting you, 500 block HP would be about 425 rwhp assuming 15% drive train loss in a manual car.

Hmm, looking at my calculations, I'm starting to wonder what all it would take out of a 2 valve to get there. My guess is everything you listed in your original post since that's what Coast High is claiming. 400+ rwhp N/A is definitely a steep target...500+ rwhp N/A is going to be tough one.

Re: 5.1 Stroker Hp?

I'm looking at crank HP, I still think that 500 seems way high! I figured that the 5.1 would have around 400 crank HP. I had 256 rwhp before so almost anything would be a improvement! I just want to get the best bang for the buck. A supercharger is in the future at some piont.

Re: 5.1 Stroker Hp?

It's going to be very tough to make that kind of power N/A without stepping up to the 5.4, and even that may not make it. With the modular motors, you are much better off strapping some boost onto a solid bottom end rather than trying to build a high compression N/A engine. Not to say that it can't be done, but it will be much tougher on your wallet, driveability may have to suffer, etc.

Re: 5.1 Stroker Hp?

My mods were BBK ceramic shorty headers, BBK off road X pipe, Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust, K&N cold air intake, American Muscle intake spacer, BBK pulleys, SCT tune, Hurst shifter, and 3:73's. The car ran 13.83 @ 102.
