1998 King Cobra V6????

HellO, I just picked up a 98 Cobra Mustang, It has no engine, computer or drive shaft. I just got a 04 V6 engine off ebay for dirtcheap. I want to build a daily driver, I am without a car at the moment. I am familier with mustangs I sold my 67 fastback last year that I had for over 17 years. I put a lot into it but didn't enjoy the daily of attention (you wanna sell it, do you wanna sell it). I want to upgrade this also, shorty headers, K&N intake filter etc. I have never tried the upgraded pullys, anyone familier with that. I also am thinking of getting an 03-04 transmission, or does any one have a better idea? Will I have problems with the stock Cobra Traction-Loc rear? I don't have a lot of money. any advice would be great.

thanx

Oh yea, King Cobra? This guy I work with is giving me crap about doing this, he has a 96 Cobra. I told him, it will be faster than a 1978 Mustang King Cobra (166HP?)

Re: 1998 King Cobra V6????

I think a better idea would be to put a cobra motor back into the car instead of the V6. I can understand why your coworker is giving you crap as I would be ragging the hell out of you if you lived in town too.

But, with that said, you're obviously going to need a lot of parts to get this car up and running any way you go. The t-lok of the cobra is not going to be a problem at all. Many V6'ers dream of upgrading to the 8.8" rear end with T-lok.

I would check out some junk yards to see if you can't find some of the parts you'll need like the wiring harness, computer, and trans. THe 03/04 cobra trans would be a great choice, but that is going to cost you and won't be cheap. If you could find the 3650 (I think that's what came in the 03/04 V6/GT manuals) you can probably get away a good bit cheaper. I've seena few 3650's for sale for around 700 or so lately.

Re: 1998 King Cobra V6????

I have a 97 V6 that I thought was a good idea to buy at the time, I was wrong! It wasn't long before I was tired of the 150 hp beast, and started do upgrades that really aren't worth it. I'm sure you could find a wrecked GT or even Cobra and have most all the parts you'll need to do the swap. I think you should sleep on this before you go to far with the V6 idea.

Well, in his defense, the 04 V6 is plenty more powerful than the 97 V6.

Re: 1998 King Cobra V6????

Gee too late, I live in Los Angeles and gas prices are back up to $2.00 so far. My daily drive is 80+ miles. I just figured the 04 v6 is up around 193HP and can be bumped up with a few items while I have the engine out anyway. there is a 440lb difference here plus more lb. loss with some the headers. I can't really turn back now. Anyone here try a jackyard backoff move like this yet??? v8 to v6??

No, but we were going to go the opposite way until that person changed their mind again, but the year is still young so we may still be doing it.

Re: 1998 King Cobra V6????

you need to look at it this way. you may end up with a car that is 1 of 1. the only real v5 cobra and a fobra. I say if that is what you want go for it. the car is their to make you happy not anyone else

I think you'll f**k with people's heads when you tell them you have a v6 cobra.
It's almost like buying a z06 and putting a cobalt 4 banger in it, but hey what the hell, like hottcobra said, its your car, if that's what you want to do, go for it.

Definitely be unique.

Re: 1998 King Cobra V6????

^^^ I agree. You should be able to find a 2.3T pretty cheap. I believe they used to go for about $600. It will get better gas mileage than the V6 and around the same or possibly more power. It would also be the most unique and incredibly badass thing ever.

There is a turbo kit for a v6. Does a billit flywheel really add that much more power?

It will reduce your rotating mass weight and you'll pick up some RWHP Haven't a clue as to how much

4-5 rwhp...at least that's the difference claimed for the spec alluminum vs steel flywheel that I have...

However, a steel flywheel will deliver the power to the rear wheels harder and quicker than an alluminum due to the added rotating mass.

You're probably right...although, I believe the V6's and V8's have the same manuals as well as autos...so...

No its just mostly highway when traffic gets bad i drop to 24-26. Unless your granny does 70-90 on the highways no i dont drive like a granny. You got auto or standard? I was averaging 26 mpg in my 01 auto before someone took the front end off.

3.73 ,T-Lok<<< thats ur problem right there
