Re: mustang 4.6 interchange

the engine will go in with no problem, use all the electricals off the 98 on the 99 motor and u may need a tune to take advantage of the pi engine. its a straightfoward swap.

The changes you will be making will be too much for the factory computer to compensate for. So you will need to have the car tuned for the new setup to run efficiently and correctly.

Here's a site that might answer all your questions. The article is titled Modular Mix and Match. Modular Mix & Match, Part 1--Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine

I'll send it to your email as well. Good luck on your car.

Re: mustang 4.6 interchange

thanks for the info guys still haven't really messed with the car much,it's winter here and all but I did find someone here locally that can do a computer tune and flash the original computer .He's into these engines but in the trucks. He has a lightning that he drag races and it's so fast thats he's run himself out of his class. The next class up mandates a rollcage in the truck and refuses to cut up the interior of his lightning,so I figure if anyone can do it he can.By the way if there are any of you guys/gals out there close to Covington Va his buiseness is called Troyer Performance. But I will not need the 99 wiring warness witch will probably go up for sale complete with the coil on plug stuff too.By the way can I use the injectors that are in the 99 model motor.I really got a good buy on this motor just needs a rist pin.Gave $200 for it

Re: mustang 4.6 interchange

u will have to keep your existing injectors because they are different. they are both 19lbs but one is an ev1 and the other ev6. wont interchange without plug adapters that i seen for sale or modifying the harness.

Re: mustang 4.6 interchange

While on the topic of the 4.6, I'm redoing my 2002. Do you know of anyone who has used an electric water pump on the 4.6 and what their results were?

I would think the gains would be minimal. You also have to decide if you will be running a greater risk of something going wrong (wires chafing, ground coming loose, fuse blowing) which will lead to and engine going bye-bye very soon.

With that being said...I'd do it if you're pulling everything out anyway. Might only be worth 3hp but it's 3 more hp than you had to begin with.

They claim 12 HP but the possible screw-ups you mention are entirely possible with my mechanic work! Besides, those things are expensive!
