Re: no heat in middle of winter!!

check your coolant level, sometimes when its low it will not heat up correctly. the main reason would be the heater core; a part that requires pulling the dashboard out. this i know from personal experience lol. when the car sits up does it fog the windshield up on the passanger side? or do u smell coolant inside the car when its on? those are signs of heater core failure.

Re: no heat in middle of winter!!

Do you mean you can't get heat at the floor but the heater does work if you turn it on the dash vents? That sounds more like a fan problem, or a diverter problem in the ducting.

If your heat doesn't work at all, there is an easy thing you can do before you tear the dash out and replace the core. First, see if you can feel of the inlet and outlet hoses going through the firewall when the car is at operating temperature, is one of them cold? That is a clogged up core. I actually fixed my S10's clogged heater core by just pulling the hoses off and shooting water back through it with a water hose and blowing all the junk out of it (yay orange dexcool is super crap)

Re: no heat in middle of winter!!

What mods does you car have? I have a huge electric fan on mine that pretty much keeps the car from ever reaching normal operating temps in the winter. In my 10 minute drive to work, I'm lucky to hit 120*. As a result... no heat until just about when I pull into the parking lot.

If you have an aftermarket water temp gauge, it should be simple to tell if you are having the same problem. The stock gauges are crap though and won't tell you much of anything.

Thats a good point, and even if you have a stock system, if the thermostat is stuck open it will take a long time to get any heat into the cabin. You can check the thermostat pretty easily by boiling it in a pan on the stove and watching to see if it opens and closes normally.
