Anyone know of different heat shield for under the hood would accommodate making the fake air intake real on the stock hood?
Don't want to cut the hole in the insulation myself would prefer something already made for that. Also need a air filter to use there, any ideas? Modification
I did it too. All I did was drilled out all the holes I could in the honeycomb in the scoop insert, used a hole saw to cut 4 holes ( if I remember right) in the hood, and trimmed the insulation under the scoop. Cold air now blows directly onto the intake plenum. The more cold air the better, it's not a world better but it's got to be worth something. By keeping the stock insert in the scoop you retain the original mounting, and strength of the scoop. I've had no problems.
i really like the ideas the others had, i considered doing the same in my old stang. remove the heat shield, drill the four holes like he said, and drill out as much honeycomb as possible, or remove it entirely and replace it with your own grill/mesh of choice. on my old one i drilled out the holes and put a neon bar inside the scoop so it shined through at night. it looked kinda cool. but with your heat shield issue i dont understand what would be wrong with cutting the factory one, or removing it entirely. Im not sure but maybe you could modify the heat shield from a mach 1 to fit the hood, i know they are pre cut for the shaker.
