Motor swap question.

I know this is a stretch, but I was just sitting here bored at work, and thinking about mods for the stang. And for some reason, I started thinking about the 03 Cobra. Has anyone done a swap into a GT. Like taken the motor out of an 03 or 04 and dropped it into a GT. Just curious. And if you could do it, what all does it entail?

Yes it can be done no reason why it should not. several companies offer complete engine kits available .

Cobra motors are not cheap though, unless you come across an amazing deal

I'm sorry, but $45,000 for an engine is insanely high... I think anyway

If you're gonna go with a 5.4, just pull a DOHC out of a Lincoln and change internals and throw a supercharger on there, you'll come out just about as good and with alot of change left over.

I know the Lincoln 5.4 in a Mustang slightly tuned w/out supercharger was getting 300 something hp in my roommate's uncle's 01 GT...then he supercharged it.. then he sold it lol. Made a 30g or so profit.

The Cobra R intakes might cost you a healthy chunk of change!

I saw an 01 Bullitt GT with a crate 01 Cobra Engine in it and running, asked if he had to rewire it, said he just had to get a chip burned for it is all?? He didn't do the install himself though, paid a mechanic to do it.

I'm getting ready to do a v-8 swap into my v-6... probably later on this academic year.... after I get my part time job, and get my rims, and my new paint job. Maybe not after my new paint job... I think I'd like an actual GT hood... which I can get when I get my salvaged GT. Anyway (11)

I am gonna purchase a beat up 01 v6 and drop a (stroked) 5.4 in it. It will be a 6.0. with over 400 rwtorque. (naturally aspirated) Then put a kenne bell on it. It will be tubbed and strictly a drag car.

i heard the cobra 03 heads are bad ***, as good or better than navi's. There is a pic of them on mustangworld side by side and the cobras looked the same but with more room for porting. I wonder how much a set of 03 heads runs

Anything from an 03 Cobra is going to cost you a bit usually. The big difference from your engine to an 03 engine is the 03 has a cast iron block for extra strength for the supercharger. Supposed to stand up to over 600hp easily I hear.

GT's run a cast iron block as well.

As far as the 03 Cobra Motor swap you will have to swap out harnesses as well, if I'm not mistaken all harnesses from the firewall forward. You'll need to have your computer calibrated for the new motor or find an 03 Cobra computer. You'll need to buy a fuel pump/tank from an 03 Cobra. There's alot of other stuff that I'm missing but it adds up quick

My suggestion, build high hp from a 2V. My setup by summer will consist of a forged bottom end, unported heads, cams, and intercooled Novi 2000...this car will easily see over 600 rwhp. Here's a link to a car that has the similar setup that I'm going to have:

I would hit that car you linked to any day...damn...me likes. I hope to be pushing more than that in my car when I finish though, and no, I'm not putting a v8 in my v6...

Cobras all come with a forged crank, that is one of things a lot of guys do when they want to build up their GTs is put in a Cobra crank, forged pistons and rods is also a good idea if you plan to push that kind of horses, but I don't understand why if you want to do all of that you aren't planning to port your heads. If you change cams to supercharger cams and port the heads you will get a lot more gain than with just a cam change.

The stock heads with the custom grind that MPH uses will allow the car to easily see 600 rwhp. They've done it on the Saleen car and they easily made over 500 (actually mid 500's) with an S-trim. As far as ported heads, the reason I'm not porting the heads is b/c: 1) the extra amount of cash it will take 2) 600 rwhp will be plenty and 3) my fuel system as it stands will be tapped out so with ported heads I will have to upgrade to a return style fuel system, thus costing more money.

at 8 psi with an aftercooled vortech, ported heads, stage 2 cams, & a ported bullet intake. The car made 542 rwhp & ran a 11.2 & still got 17 mpg. WoW
