Selling used car?

Okay, questions for some of y'all that probably have more experience with this than me. What all do I need to make sure happens in a used car transaction? Collect money and sign over title, obviously, but what else? Do I need to write up a bill of sale? Anything else?

Re: Selling used car?

You need to write a bill of sale and sign it (maybe both sign it, not sure) and then you make sure you have cash (cleared check etc) and then go to the bank and sign over the title. If you have the title in hand then you might still want to meet at the bank to have a witness and to ensure its done right.

Yeah, I own it outright. The bank idea isn't a bad one, though. I might give them a call here in a little while and ask about that.

Re: Selling used car?

I almost messed up on my old car's title and should have went to the bank to do it to keep from screwing it up myself.

Re: Selling used car?

Make sure you write up a bill of sale...and make sure it says "As Is" in it. I can email you a copy of the one I used when I sold my explorer...or you can look up the template on MS website like I did.

Just make sure it says "as is" in the listing...and in the bill of sale....

Yeah, if you could just email that to me, it would be great.

Re: Selling used car?

always get the bill of sale signed by both partys. And keep a copy of it on hand for a while.. never know when ya might need it!

Sold my 84 corvette back in the early winter i guess and a month or so ago the guy that bought it came to me and wanted me to write him another bill of sale. He just sold it to his brother and never took out insurance or tag or anything. Just to speed things up.. I made $20 for it lol

Re: Selling used car?

you need to have a bill of sale in case you sell a car and the person who bought it wreckes it before he switches the tittle over. so your not liable. trust me, had it happen to me. But have a bill of sale. p.s. very good idea to have it notorized
