Texas Emissions Inspections

So I am going to be getting my Texas license and my Texas tags here in the next month and need to know what I am looking at as far as Emissions go? I have no cats.

Is it just a CEL test?

You can get cats and hallow them out if they vissually inspect. Or u can do like me and pay a little extra to pass. But i didnt say this.

Here's what you gotta do. Go to an inspection station, take the inspector a sandwich with extra "lettuce" and I'm sure that will convince him that your car is emissions legal. Lol

Hmm, well this seems a bit more complicated than I expected. I figured Texas was the opposite of California but I guess not.

So was Alabama. Looks like I'll just renew my Alabama tags and license and eat any ticket I get for not having a Texas license. Not going through this crap.

Well, I'll PM you my address and leave the keys under the doormat. Otherwise, I'll just renew my Alabama tag in November when I drive back home and not have to put up with this dumb crap.

Texas people need to STFU about California. This emission stuff is no better.

It is dumb. But its really easy to get around. I pay an extra 10 bucks to get my sticker. No big deal.

I live in Grapevine, TX near DFW airport.

It is illegal to be a primary residence somewhere and not have a license in that state.

Just tell them you are going to school here or just visiting. I kept my TX DL and plates in Illinois for three years and they never told me squat.

I wouldnt change it until I was told to with a warning.

If they stop you and say anything just make sure you don't indicate that you're living there...otherwise you'll get a ticket for driving without a license after 30 days of transferring your address...my cousin got one 35 days after...

Yeah living in grapevine you're going to have to deal with that crap. I know that hunt county doesn't do emissions. But you have to have a residency in that county to get inspected there... Also keep in mind if you buy a sticker make sure you get paperwork with it... If a cop stops you and is smart enough to know that you're illegal but have a sticker he can still write you a ticket for not being up to standards and they can take your sticker unless you have legit paperwork for it. Honestly it's much easier to just run high flow cats. And keep in mind that these guys y'all are bribing for sticker if caught are looking at serious fines and jail time. Texas doesn't #%^* around....

Or you could just buy some old cats, hollow them out, then weld a piece of pipe through them, and have that welded on and as long as you don't have an emissions sensor thing, you should be fine.

Re: Texas Emissions Inspections

Just depends on what county you are in. They only check to make sure the window tint isn't to dark here in Waco. They only stick the probe in for emissions in certain counties.

No emissions or visual.

Is there some place online where I can find out what Tarrant County does? I also have 20% tint on it. Not going to redo my entire car for this state lol

Re: Texas Emissions Inspections

TxDPS - Vehicle Inspection Program

You are in an emissions county. If im not mistaken the legal limit is 35% up front.

Its nice living in a small(er) town. I have no cats and 0% tint and they never even question me. Hand them my $14.50 and go on about my day.

The shop giving you a sticker without checking your exhaust already kno they get in big trouble. All they have to say is no. But they give me my sticker lol. And i get my paperwork with it as well. And i live in houston cops everywhere ive been pulled over many times never say anything. My tint is dark as hell but dnt say anything about it either. I got 15% all around. So brent i would get ur texas plates and find someone to get ur sticker from. And cops wont harrase you for you tint. You will be good. Hell my sticker has been expired for like 6 months now i dnt have time to get a new one. Lol.

Don't worry about the tint just pull in for an inspection on a pretty day and leave your windows down they most times won't catch it... And also don't get your Texas tags just yet if you go to the inspection place and just have them do it and they fail it then just renew the other ones but I believe you have to get your car inspected before Texas will register it. I know it's like that when buying an out of state vehicle so I assume it's the same for transferring one. And as far as your cats if you don't have a check engine light on then their computer shouldn't care... Also do not reset your codes before taking the car for inspection. The computer will say pending on everything and the computer won't take it...
