Here's a pic of one of those "Sonny's" big block engines. 903 ci 1700 hp. Naturally aspirated.
And they make a Ford based version as well as the GM.
How much for all of that power you ask? About 90 thousand dollars...

Lol.
I don't even remember what car it was in. I think that it was a Nova.
That engine and the chassis work really overshadowed the car.

Did anybody get any pictures of that car by chance?

And yeah, we need to remember to get some group photos in the future.

Thanks Travis!
And it was nice to finally meet you!

You can really see the proportions of that engine when it is in the car.
Haha.
14.8 litres is HUGE!
But they actually make a bigger engine! 1000 cubic inches! That's 16.39 litres!
Lol.
I can remember when 500 ci was big... Then it was 600+... Now a thousand?!?!!?!?

You could probably "shoehorn" one of those monsters into a '68 Travis... or a New Edge Andrew.

Hmmm.
I wonder if I can find a Sonny's engine on Craigslist?

Lol.
Some parents can remember what it was like to be young.
And in all fairness, I did the exact same thing as Andrew and I was right behind him. Andrew was just unlucky and that cop saw him do it first and actually passed me to get behind Andrew to pull him over.
So that makes me just as guilty... And I'm the oldest one in our group!

It was also nice to have you there Jeremy!
And you and Chris' kids!

Ok. So i just looked up the tickets that I got. On paper it looks a lot better. The violation codes were 22106 (unsafe start/backing) and 21658a (straddling)......

22106 - Unsafe Start: From what i'm reading it is basically just that. Found this "Basically, it is a violation of section 22106vc for a driver to start driving or backing up when it is unsafe to do so." So you can literally get this ticket for not looking behind or in front of you when starting to move, or just being a straight up idiot not paying attention. Average cost - $234 give or take

21658(a) - Straddling: Whats written down is "straddling", but the code is basically for an unsafe lane change.

Overall it doesn't seem all too bad lol. If i don't go to court or do any type of driving school i'm looking at about $400-500 and 2 points. Which yea it does suck ***, but it could have been a hell of a lot worse.

Handheld two-way radios have up to 20 mile (line-of-sight) range these days and go for $20-$30 for a 2 pack. Even the nice ones go for under $60 for the pair.

Haha.
Space is a little limited in the New Edges. Those hand-held radios would work awesome! The same type as they use at autocross.
My ramp truck actually has a CB radio and I can't wait to get on the interstate and start "jaw-boning" with the truck drivers. Lol. It's gonna be like the 70's again!
There's not a lot of people who use CB's nowadays so I don't even know if it works though.

Hey Travis, do you ever hear anyone talking on the CB in the east bay?

Thats why i said to just plug it into the cigarette lighter so you can just tuck it somewhere. And I don't really ride with it on I just use it when i go wheeling or mudding with my friends but of the times iv had it on its been quite haha

Hey Ron..... I joined the Bay Area AutoX forum. Found a couple guys that i recognized from some events, that you would recognize also. Oh and i listed out all my mods and everything and they are recommending me to be in ESP if i get BFG Rivals, or SM if i get R888s, they actually recommend the Rivals over the R888s for AutoX since they heat up quicker. Looks like we will be battling it out this year.

Just gotta pick a number now. I've used 281 before, might use it again. Unless i can think of something else that would fit and be relevant to my car lol.

Lol.
Those guys need to read the rules.
You can be in ESP until you start winning and then someone will pick your car apart and you'll be out.
The fact that your Torque arm is attached to the sub-frame makes your car illegal for the class. Then there is the gears. The gutted interior (Back seat). Etc.
Nobody will care unless you are consistently winning. Then the other people who are trying to win the points race will complain. You're going to need to be on R-comps before that happens though.
And you can run any DOT legal tire in ESP so it has more to do with the cars suspension modifications whether it remains eligible for the class.
Just run in ESP but don't point out to anybody the modifications on your car... Make them crawl on the ground and look.

I'm not familiar with SM. I don't think that UFO had that class in their series.

I can't wait until next season!

The rules may be different between SCCA and UFO. Actually turns out my aluminum driveshaft makes me illegal in ESP.

Hell i may just do CAM (Classic American Muscle) since its just a group for all American built cars. I care more about comparing myself and my car against other modded cars or higher end cars, i don't care too much about actually winning my class (right now).

My guess is SM isn't all that far behind SU (Street Unlimited) which is what Brett Madsen and his amazing roush did this year (and took home the national championship).

UFO and all of the rest of the clubs use SCCA rules. They usually lag behind and use SCCA rules that are a few years old because of copyright infringement laws or something but they change very little.
Those things that I listed previously are from the current SCCA rule book.

You don't even need to be in a class really, you can just do Fun Runs. That's what the sponsored drivers do when they're just practicing or testing and not in the points race for the series. It's actually more respectful to the people who are battling it out in the classes than showing up periodically throughout the season and taking points from the people who are showing up for every race and trying to win their class.
The advantage of running in a specific class is that you can accurately compare times with similar cars because you are racing at the same time.

The important part is just to go out and try to make every lap better than your last...

Talking

It's a good informational commercial. I showed my boys and said "See what happens when you are THAT guy. Don't be THAT guy (at least not until you are off my insurance)."
