Exclamation Houston Ford Mustang's

How is everyone doing today? Hopefully everything is running smoothly on your end.

I have a question which I am sure this forum is littered with but I am sorry to say after doing several searches. I am still uncertain.

I have a 2012 Mustang V6 with the 6 Speed M/T. Unfortunately for me this car is bone stock base when it comes to performance. E.g. Stock headers, Mid Pipe, 2.73 Gears, Etc.

Whom here has been able to get a Ford Dealership to install newer gears? What were the cost and does it void the warranty?

I do know for a fact that If I were to do it myself or have a third party racing shop do it, the install "WILL" void warranty "IF" Ford is able to prove that the gears caused the issues.

But what about if Ford does it? Does my warranty still pertain? IF NOT what Shops offer gear installs with warranty.

Sorry for the 50 questions guys/gals but I am so sick of these 2.73's ! HAHA!

Thank You, Sam.

You can only get them to install 3.31s for $1500, and they will reflash the computer to the base 3.31 tune for $110. Not worth it.

Wow not at all....well shoot I guess I am stuck with finding a reputable shop. Hopefully one with a in house warranty. I figured it be cheaper to buy the 3.73's Kit from AM and then having a shop install them. Then I also need a tuner. Geez, never enough money around...Haha.

I am still under warranty....May have to just wait. Either 2 more years or when I reach 50K. Currently at 25K. Thanks Volt!

You can do all your cosmetics and suspension work before doing performance. Thus you can retain that warranty longer

Appreciate the comment Cise.

Yea actually that's all I have done for her. Check out my thread (My sig) if you are curious on what's been done.

I just have way to many plans for her but no money to do it with, comfortably. I have money to the point that I could buy what I want but if something were to go wrong thats where I fall short. So I just play it safe for now.

Gears, Tune, Nitrous, Headers, Mid Pipe all the fun stuff I just cant do just yet but in do time. I am only 26 after all.

I just don't want to wait 5+ years to do all this and then realize I should of just waited for a 5.0. Oh well haha.

I have a 3.7 auto and a 3.7 manual. The Auto has 3.73s and the Manual has 3.31s. I will say 3.31s are decent for a manual. Going 3.73s or 4.10s on a manual will be too much shifting imo. Not approving Ford's price. But just putting that out there. 3.55s might be ok. But personally, i am leaving it with 3.31s.

Plus if you followed my threads, you know my gear install experience in Texas was a b****. No way i am going through that again. 3.31s are fine to me! XD

yeah, we have 3.55s in our manual, and coming from the 2.73s it was good, but 3.31 to 3.55 isnt worth the bump.

Depends on how cheap he can get them. Most likely not less them $500. BUT! If he could find one of those elusive shops that do them for less then $500, correctly, then it might be worth it. But those are so few in between its almost as rare as Yoshi.

Imo, anything is better then those horrid 2.73s. Had em, didnt like em. Some of us has spent money on dumber things that gave 0 performance increase (cai anyone?)

So glad the 2011 i just bought already had 3.31s.

Yea I've been thinking long about which gears I want. 3.73's is usually what everyone one says to go for but I am thinking 3.55's since I may one day get Nitrous (more than likely since its cheaper) or a Turbo kit (Probably not unless its someone elses hand-me-downs). Not to sure though I just want better gears and a tune right now.

I may have to hit you up then! SA is not that far from me at all. I actually just went to San Marcos last weekend to go tubing down the Guadalupe!

Yea I know I am being a pain and a pu$$y about the warranty (its already saved me $2k) but If its done right then there shouldn't be any problems, right?

Just remember, the shorter gear you go, the more shifting you will be doing for every day driving. You gotta find your comfort zone. Maybe see if there is anyone in your area who will let you go for a drive with them.

OR! Look around for a used 2011-2014 v6 with PP, tell them you are interested and schedule a test drive. Then say you are not interested. Lol!

You have nothing to worry about. Just make sure it's a reputable tuner.

No problem. But looking for a used 2011-2014 v6 with pp for sale in your area might be easier. Just say you might be interested and take it for a spin.

I'm with kevin on the 3.31s. I've driven 3.31 and 3.73 and for the difference in money the 3.31s are a huge upgrade over the 2.73s

See, get the gears from Rap and he will also help you get them installed for cheap. Sounds like a win to me.

I was advised that the gears and diff when used, end up making their own grooves with one another. That's how the horrible gear sounds are made right?

Not always. Usually its due to improper shimming, etc.

Hmm interesting. Well there's a guy on Craigs with 3.55's brand new in a box with the Pinion ring for $80. May have to do that. Then get a Tuner, looking at MPT with the SCT4 Tuner.

Money, money, money!

Go with mpt. I just switched to mpt from bama.

As far as gears go.

Getting good used gears is no big deal asking as there shimmed properly. I've been doing gears on my own cars for several years and with proper tools there quick and easy. Just have to be shimmed perfectly and have correct pinion angle. All else will fall into place. All new gears wear into one another during the break in process. It's completely normal and nothing to worry about.

You will get gear whine if they are not shimmed correctly. Initial gear whine for the first 300 miles is considered as normal because the gear will wear into one another. If the whine does not stop than you know to get it fixed. I've done 4.10s and never had an issue with gear whine other than initial break in. Just my .02.

If you'll be doing power adders later such as fi or nitrous I would recommend you stick with 3.31. It gives you more time in gear and allows you to use more of the power in the motor.

Well the guy I was talking to from Craigs made a mistake in the text message. He meant to say "$180" for the kit because initially he sent "$80".

I do plan on doing some kind of Force Induction and more than likely it'll be the Nitrous way.

What do you think Rap? Grab your 3.31's (how much btw?) and put Nitrous in the foreseeable future. All i know is whatever I get will be 100x better than these 2.73's.

Get the 3.31 and you'll be happy one you run the nitrous. There's a huge difference from what u have now to the 3.31 and nitrous will only improve on that and it will still be cruisable on the eway
