"breaking it in"

I hear people talk about breaking in thier new vehicles or mufflers. I kinda understand what they are talking about but can someone tell me mechanically what happens when you break in a new cat back system, or in my case a new o/r x-pipe

Breaking in a catback is just a saying.. there is no process in breaking in a cat back. Other than driving it and rechecking all the bolts later no break-in necessary.
