1/4 question....

I read the "how to drag" topic up above, and it said, when the third yellow light comes on, to go once that light comes on to make up for the time you would do it for the green light. Now, do you guys who have raced down the track already do that?

depends on the track, your tires, your driving style, mods, etc

Re: 1/4 question....

it just takes practice, work on your launches before you start to dog on the car... there is no point in ragging on the car and shifting hard if you pulled a 3.0 60ft. Get the launch going good then worry about the rest.

Re: 1/4 question....

Just go down to the local track on a test and tune night and practice your launches. Your main thing to watch for is the rpm you launch at. That determines the traction your tires have when you leave the tree. My guess will be that you will have street tires on your car. Start your launches at a low rpm and work your way up on the rpm each pass til you break traction. That will give you your launch rpm. The rest is how fast you can shift w/o grinding gears down the 1/4 mile. To answer your first question you react on the third yellow light. Also take the traction control off so you have more control on the power of the engine. Sorry for the paragraph hope it is helpful.

Re: 1/4 question....

definitely slip the clutch with street tires

slip the clutch a bit with drag radials

dump the clutch with slicks

if you wait until green then your R/T is going to really suck, but that means nothing to your ET. I'd say don't worry about the guy next to you until you can launch it well, then practice cutting a good light (low R/T)
