Need some help from some suspension gurus

Ok, here is what I'm doing. I am installing a 351W and C4 I have all the parts but the crank, and before I get started on the swap I am wanting to know what suspension parts I should upgrade. Right now I have ford c springs and hotkis delta cc plates. I know that I am gonna need new springs because of the weight of the 351W, but what other parts would you recommend upgrading? It needs to be able to with stand around 450hp, atleast that what I'm expecting. Thanks for the help.

Re: Need some help from some suspension gurus

Hmm, this is some interesting information here. I have the same questions however about a 302 going into a 4 cyl car....

From my research before, I found that the front springs, struts, and control arms need to be swapped out. Keep in mind, this is for a 4 cyl car, so if your's was a v8 car you won't need to mess with the control arms.

But, that's just the results of my searching a month or so ago. I await other, more edumacated responses to verify.

Re: Need some help from some suspension gurus

V8s and V6s use nearly the same springs when you go aftermarket so weight isnt big there, but with a 351 it may be~ you can always cut some on the rear to even it out

The spring rate should be fine (600 front). The shocks will work best if replaced with one valved around a 600lb linear spring (like you have) and 300 rear (for shocks).

You will need an 8.8 rear end and good lower control arms. OEM uppers with good condition bushings are perfectly fine. Then weld in full length (repeat full length weld in) subframes are a must with that tq the 351 will have.

Re: Need some help from some suspension gurus

Thanks for the info, I already have the 8.8 with gears installed. I just want to make sure I get the suspension up to par with that big motor going in. Also do u know if there is any way to get that motor under the stock hood?

There's a local guy here that has a 393 under his stock 96 hood. You should be fine.

Re: Need some help from some suspension gurus

you can get diff motor mounts if your K member will clear (else you may need to go tubular k) but you should be ok. Also keep an eye out for an aluminum DS.
