Bullitt Mustang?

Where exactly did Bullitt Mustangs come from? Is it something Ford does or someone else? Did they start making them because of the movie "Bullitt" that featured a green 68 Gt with black rims? What was the first year Bullit Mustang?

Re: Bullitt Mustang?

Yeah they made the cars after the movie with Steve McQueen. I think 68 was the first year they actually made them.

Re: Bullitt Mustang?

the first "Bullitt" Mustang was in 2001. They made them in Black, Dark Highland Green, and True Blue. They made:

Dark Highland Green (Exclusive color for Bullitt Edition) 3,041
Black 1,818
True Blue 723

They said they would never make another one, well they did in 2008. The colors are dark highland green as well and black~

the mods for 2001 are cobra brakes, pullies (I think) new upper intake, different side rocker panels, side scoop deletes, hood scoop, no spoiler, no fog lights, red powerdercoated brake calipers, different exhaust, different wheels (bullitt wheels coin phrase), lowered, different shocks/struts, different front/rear sway bar, different interior seats and dash cluster, and a couple other things.

Re: Bullitt Mustang?

To add to that,

Exterior:
more aggressive c-pillars (same ones used on the Mach 1's), brushed aluminum fuel door, blacked out pony corral

Interior:
"bullitt" in the sill plates, aluminum shifter ball (again, used in the manual Mach 1's), shifter ring bezel (used on Mach 1's and interior upgrade packages on v6/GT's), and silver door lock soldiers

That different intake used on the Bullitt gave it an extra 5hp and 3tq, but it also was aluminum compared to the plastic one on the GT's with twin 57mm t/b's.

But it also gave the Bullitt a slight edge over the GT. IIRC, the GT doesn't really peak near it's torque curve until 3700 rpms. The Bullitt made around 283 lb's (which is like 90% or so of its peak) at 2200 rpms, which really made it stronger down low.

it's all good, I just think it's funny how ford re-uses the parts bin from car to car. Like the painted U-shaped piece in the 99 cobra grille delete...it was used again unpainted for the 03 Mach 1.

Re: Bullitt Mustang?

Thanks for clearing that up. For some reason, not knowing was bothering me. Ha, of course they said they would never make another one... then did. Go figure.

Re: Bullitt Mustang?

I honestly would hate to have one of those cars. If I got my hands on it I wouldn't want to change a single part on it not even a spark plug. I know they made more in the s197's but still someday that will be a rare car that should be worth some money.

They are nice cars, but Ford made just enough of them (5582) to not be extremely exclusive. If you look at the color breakdown, there are 723 true blue bullitts, the fewest out of the 3 colors. There were only 323 Satin Silver cobras made in 03, and 281 comp. orange 04 cobra coupes, and 72 verts.

I did a quick autotrader search for ****s and found 2 highland greens with 4k and 6k miles, one was for 17,900 and the other 13,900. They were both in what looked and claimed to be all original. The rest in blue, black and green were altered in some way, whether it be a chin spoiler or a Vortech V2 and had high mileage.

There are 3 in my town of about 2500 people, 2 greens and one blue, 2 of which have been modded.

My other issue with them is some of the people who drive them think they're superior to the rest of the mustang community, because they drive a "bullitt".
Even though the (in some cases) more rare Mach 1's and 03/04 Cobras would rape them in a race.

Anyways, that's my rant
bottom line IMO, they're great cars, would love to have one, but they're not the greatest nor rarest late model mustang to blacken the pavement.

Re: Bullitt Mustang?

I like the Bullitt's also but would invest my money on a Mach 1 or 03/04 Cobra for long run value.

Re: Bullitt Mustang?

Bullits will be a car people hold on to because they 'think' it will have a very high value later, although they will be plentiful. Most of the truly defined 'rare' cars end up being the ones people don't imagine at this point in life.

You don't buy a car as an investment 99 percent of the time

I bought my BHG '08 Bullitt because it's one hell of a car. Rawer and rougher than the normal GT, remided me of my old '67. At 48 yrs old, I'll be long gone long before it will be valuable. But I plan on keeping her till I'm gone!

How true on how unpredictable what the next valuable 'collectors' car will be. At least a Mustang will always be showable, in the sense there are lots of people, like me, that will go to a show filled with Musangs of all types and styles. How many cars are like that?

I'd like to keep thinking: No other car.

Re: Bullitt Mustang?

I have TB Bullitt and drive the hell out of it. As far as collector, maybe to my 5 year old daughter. Who knows what the future brings to any car. If someone wants it and and willing to pay then to that person its worth it. The owner of PAPA JOHNS paid an outrageous amount to get back his boyhood Camero, he put allot of cash into it and now see it in commercials. I'm having fun with my Bullitt.......
