Smile Question on exhaust

Its for my 05 GT. I've had Flomasters on my other Mustangs, but I was told to get Borla instead this time. Does anyone know much about Borla? I'm kinda of used to the Flowmasters but I may just be an exhaust snob. lol Any help would be great.

Re: Question on exhaust

I am an exhaust snob and would not install anything but borla on my cars. The chokemasters tend to rust out pretty quick as another member on here experienced within 2 years. I am also not a fan of how they sound on cars other than 5.0's...they just sound too tinny/metallic to me.

Thank you! All Ive ever had are 5.0's maybe thats why I usually go with the Flowmaster. I'll look into the Borla.

Re: Question on exhaust

If memory serves me correctly, the Ford stingers and Roush exhaust are also the same as the Borlas (axle back). You can tell as they look identical except for the wording on the tips. Another option is the FR500s. I have those on my car and love them. No droning, but a nice deep sound.

Re: Question on exhaust

Yah Borlas are far superior to Flowmasters in my book. I also like them on the 5.0 Fox bodies more than the new edge and S197's. As said above, you can get the FRPP brand, which are basically Borlas and save some money.

Re: Question on exhaust

05+ mustangs are axle backs. I've always had flowmasters on my cars. I put the flows on my 06 GT and they rusted out in 2 years. I put the borlas on my car and love them. plus the are stainless and last forever. you will also want to replace the factory H-pipe for a X-pipe as it changes the sound for the better.

Re: Question on exhaust

Yah I've heard stingers with h-pipes and x-pipes on the 05+ in person, and both sounded badass, so you'll be fine either way...you'll have to decide whether you want a deeper tone(h) or a raspier snap(x).

Re: Question on exhaust

Thanks, We dont have to many problems with things rusting out here but everything I'm hearing and reading points to the Borla. I'm going to have to hunt someone down that has the x and H, so I can hear them both. =p As long as it turns heads, I think I'm ok. lol

Yeah, I'll keep the mufflers. It's a wicked nasty ticket here for "noise pollution". Then you have to get it fixed and bring it to the station for inspection... to much work.

Re: Question on exhaust

You'll be plenty loud with the borla mufflers, even louder with an aftermarket catted or o/r h/x pipe. The decibel levels between the v6 and v8 are quite noticeable. Even with the stock manifolds, midpipe and just borla mufflers, you'll be louder than the v6.

Yah I'd say swap in the Borla/FRPP axlebacks then and see how it sounds. If you want it louder look into an o/r h or x pipe. If you want to stay emissions legal get a a catted h or x pipe, even with aftermarket cats it'll still be louder than the stock cats, but not as loud as not having them.

LOL I totally understand.

I'm more into the "Holly Mother of God! That Mustang sounds p!ssed off."

which is the normal reaction I get. But that also tends to bring the police by.

LOL Yeah I LOVE other mustangs that sound like that, but I support my city with enough tickets as it is. Plus, Im not trying to kill my 80 year old neighbor by giving her a heart attack.

Re: Question on exhaust

FWIW my car sounds neither tinny nor metallic with flowmasters, though I think I'd rather go with magnaflows (came with flowbastards)

And not a lick of rust on the things here in Cali
