Offical GT500 HP numbers are out

Well, forget the 475 hp they were talking about. I knew ford would lie to us about that.

Can I say I told you guys so, or do I have to find the thread where I originally posted it first?

EDIT: BTW... post #666. If I would have waited a month and a couple days that would have really freaked me out...

It's only a ploy to cover up the fact the MSRP will...most likely...be well over the promised "under 40k". This just helps lube us up for when we get the pricing shaft later.

Manufactuerer ratings don't mean much. I prefer to see people chassis dyno cars after they hit the streets.

These are certified numbers rather than just MFG ratings. They were certified like the Vette's were so they will only be +/- 2%...which we all know is BHP.

I too would like to see what WHP they put down when they come out...as well as the final curb weight without driver so I will know how close a race with a stock one will be.

it was like the terminatores which had more hp than claimed, accept this time the numbers they stated are what they really produce.

Re: Offical GT500 HP numbers are out

I found that out it was 500 the other night when I rode in one but was told to keep it hush hush just in case ford didn't want to advertise it that way.

Re: Offical GT500 HP numbers are out

75-80hp over the terminator is a good start, they should perform pretty well even though they are heavier. I hope they are easily modable... and not all screwed up so you cant even bolt on a smaller pulley.

The xhaust is also really free flowing so dont expect much from an aftermarket setup as the terminators got.

No smaller upper pulley due to the S/C snout being so wide that you can't fit a smaller pulley on there.

No lower pulley upgrade because of some sensor or something next to the lower pulley (like 1/8" away) so there is no room for a larger pulley.

There will be packages available from other vendors like snout replacements etc, but it won't be a simple pulley swap this time around. They engineered it to be non mod-friendly.

All I know is the engine bay is packed! I honestly can't believe they fit that engine in there. I think It will be really hard to work on.

The 03/04 is bad enough...I can only imagine the bigger displacement making it even worse.

Re: Offical GT500 HP numbers are out

once people actually get a way to up the boost.. stupid ford. the name shelby has been ragged on ever since they put it on that car, its not the worst thing they could have done but many think the car looks to normal or even ugly in some respects. I like it myself and am glad ford is making it. I want to see one in person and see how it drives.

Gotta love Stealerships....

I expect a 45-49k price tag....and then a lot of 5-10+k stealership markups.

Honestly when you can get a Corvette Z06 for that price and same power, it's not too bad...the 45-50k price that is. It's Ford's first and true stab at becoming a super musclecar seller in years...besides the GT which was never intended to sell.

The fact that they you can get a vette at that price is a very bad thing. While I hate chevy with a passion...and vettes for that matter...they have a far superior ride quality than the mustang ever will stock. To get the same power, much lighter car, and a far better ride for the same price...means the mustang will be over priced.

well if you could make 20k PROFIT into your pocket would you? I know it sucks but its about what people will pay, if someone would give me a million bucks for my show I would probably be out there selling it~

A good number were making around 365-375 stock with a few freaks making 380+. I didn't have mine done stock unfortunately, so I can't say for sure what mine was. However, the 03/04s were really around 420-425 but were under rated because of the 99 fiasco and for insurance reasons.

This 500 number is supposed to be "certified", so it is expected to be within 2-3 % +/- of 500. It will be nice to see a true dyno of one in stock form to get an idea of actuals.
