well that seems kind of slow. our cars are capable of a low 16 stock. id say a 15.7-15.8 at best for you with those mods.

97 3.8 5 spd. BBK CAI, BBK 56mm throttle body, Mac pulleys, GT dual exhaust, Motive 4:10s. My girlfriend ran a 15.8 @ 84.5 her first time on the track. I'd say save some money out for the some 4:10's you wont be disappointed.

yea but thats also single port, which is a hell of a lot slower.

Tell me about it lol. I'm thinking on doing the split port swap if I get my self motivated.

Re: bolt on 3.8

94-05 autos run mid 16s stock~ manuals low 16s. The 99-04s are mid 15s in manual and high 15s in auto.

with cai, headers, custom made exhaust, ud pully, and tune you should see .5-.6 off your times but who knows depends on how good the tune is.

For an auto there is a good bit of improvement that can be made to firm it up, look into that from someone like VMP.

I would say with all the above you will go from high 16s to low 16s

I'm not saying your slow just that gears will make a world of difference. If you can look into getting a 8.8 rear end with some 4:10's you'll have a posi rear end that will handle the power of your V6 and then some.

Re: bolt on 3.8

the V6 stock in your year has 2.73 gears, thats HORRIBLE 4.10s is a WORLD of difference (3.73 for manual trans) that will be over a half second shaved off your times and of course put a ford traction lok unit in when you do gears.

The best bet is to upgrade to a GT mustang 8.8 rear end (out of the same year set as yours as 99+ stick otu a tad more which isnt a bad thing just an FYI that your rear wheels will sit out farther by like .75 inches I believe (heck some like spacers to do this and on 99-04 8.8s you get it as a bonus)

cost for upgrade of 7.5 is probably going to be 600-800 or you can buy a nice used 8.8 for around 400 but you may have to get it rebuilt (has a stock tlok unit and clutches wear out over time thus no two wheel peal if thats the case)

Re: bolt on 3.8

Yah I believe the 99-04 v6's and GT's both came with 3.27's from the factory.

You can pick up a new GT rearend with taller gears installed from 600 to 900 depending on who has them in availability. Might as well spend the extra money and get a new unit, especially since it has the gears already.
