Wink Do some mods not belong on your car?

I saw a couple mustangs with the Hood Pins on them and they looked really cool...

I was thinking about maybe getting some that just stick on... not the real deal.

I've seen people critisized for putting mods on there car that don't really belong. (Like putting the cobra symbol on a stang that isn't a cobra).

What's most people stance on this? Is it looked down upon, or is our love for our cars dictated by what we feel and want our ride to look like?

You've all been very cool soo far, so I'd love to hear some opinions.

Re: Do some mods not belong on your car?

I have no problem with the hood pins...I actually like the 3M stick on appearance hood pins even more since they don't require drilling into your hood.

I actually think the hood pins look best on the 05-10 body styles. The wider profile compliments them better than the more rounded/edgy 94-04's.

Generally we will voice our opinion on mods people do to their mustang. I personally don't care too much what you do...it's your mustang, you paid for the damn thing, do what you want. I usually frown upon real extreme changes like putting an 05+ front end on a 99-04 car or putting cobra emblems on a v6, but I won't be a complete dick about it.

Too many people slamming someone about an unpopular mod just makes the mustang community look worse, so like to see the negative stuff at a minimum. Voice your opinion in a polite way and move on...

So I say go for the hood pins, they're a great "small" accent to your mustang, and I'm sure others will share the same view.

I completely agree, the pins would look nice on your sn95. Also, anyone that puts the cobra emblem on something not SVT should be heckled, ****in idiots.

Re: Do some mods not belong on your car?

i had those hood pins on my stock hood...they looked good ... i think the only time you'll end up being heckled is when you badge your car as something its not (unless your making an exact replica ie. v6 converted to cobra with body/engine changes)

don't worry about what others "think" about your own car! I could care less what someone thinks about anything that's mine! I have a trailer hitch on my GT and pull a trailer with a lawnmower on it to cut my mothers grass. If others are paying your monthly then it would matter.

It's your car number 1...

I'm not scared to voice my opinion about other's choices though.

Re: Do some mods not belong on your car?

Doesn't matter what you do to your ride, some will like it, others won't. Keeping this in mind, you should do as you want. You like hood pins? Go for it. I had a set (real ones) on an old Camaro some 30 years back. Liked them then and still do today.

And ya, the Cobra thing, I agree. I wouldn't want to promote anything as something it's really not. But then, that's just me.

Re: Do some mods not belong on your car?

Another question for y'all...

I bought the Lemans Racing stripes and they just came in today! I wanted to know what you guys would say would be a fair price for the installation of the decal...???

I had a guy in California quote me $540!!!! That sounds a little outrageous to me, but then again, I've never had experience with this.

Hope to hear from you guys!!!!!

Re: Do some mods not belong on your car?

i absolutely HATE badging cars that are not the real thing...for example, i saw several GTs at NRMA that had the GT badge, then the would put a cobra bad underneath it

Re: Do some mods not belong on your car?

Most of the strip cost is labor, strips themselves are not that expensive to make. I would think the cost of installation would not be much different than if you went to someone and got the whole package from them.

As for mods to a car, I have taken first looks at some cars and not cared for the mods but later it would seem to grow on me. To each his own, it is your car.

decals aren't hard to install... if you take your time and are careful.

Re: Do some mods not belong on your car?

I'm with everyone else, it's your car do what you want. All mods are personal preference whether it be perfomance or looks. I would on the other hand not try and make my car look like something it's not. IE. a V6 with GT or Cobra badges. Black hood pins might look pretty cool especially since you blacked out your rims.

I too have trailer hitch on my 08 GT. Use it mostly for hauling bicycles to trail heads and parks. I have had occasional wise ... comments about it. The only thing that shows is the small receiver which has a torch red plug in it.

Re: Do some mods not belong on your car?

Your ride is "your own". Do as you see fit. If you think that something that you are considering doing-just doesn't "ring true"-and you decide to enlist the opinion(s) of other(s)-at least you will make an informed decision
I have seen stuff done to other's rides, that I would not do to my car-and that I don't agree with...`just refer to my first sentence

Re: Do some mods not belong on your car?

I think someone mentioned it but the hitch is bolted with 4 or 6 bolts (can't remember) so it's easy to remove if it bothers you, I paid 90$ shipped to my door which contained everything except the ball.

Ya, but if you ever get to see something like a '70 Chevelle SS pulling a bike trailer with a nice looking Road King on it, you tend to shrug it off and go with it. Saw that at the Laconia Rally a few years back. Had to laugh but it was a cool looking combo.

When it comes to "mods" that do not belong on your car, this one here is way worse than misbadging and hitches combined

yeah, I don't know what the big deal is, I guess if they saw me pulling my 34000$ Black Harley everything would be counted for. A mustang is a machine, a machine you transport things with. Look at my avatar, can you see the hitch

Only $20! You can get one for each pipe and sound like twin spools.

Maybe you could tow a camaro and gain back some respect.

I didn't know I lost any respect, I don't care what others think, if I did care I wouldn't have posted that I had one in the first place. From what I can remember I paid my utilities for the past 30 years

It was a tow or be towed line - all tongue in cheek.
