Re: stock rims...

You certainly can paint them. Get some high performance Wheel Clear Coat or High Temp paint for them. If you sand them down to bare metal/aluminum, I'd get some primer and put a couple coats down to make the top coats pop.

You could have them dipped or powder coated, but will probably cost as much as a new set of rims.

Re: stock rims...

paint wont hold up and to do it right with powdercoat would cost more than buying new rims. Black rims dont look good to me on most cars but I did see a grabber blue mustang at a show with black rims and black tail lights/headlights etc and it looked decent~

ditto, I've been thinking of doing the same but not to worried about "appearance" very much, if I use hi-temp black and they get scratched I can just paint over the scratch area, I know redneck but what do you expect from someone from LA (lower alabama)

Re: stock rims...

My cousin painted his stock wheels on his Audi. They were all scratched up the next day. They did look good but like SpectorV said paint doesn't hold up very well.

Re: stock rims...

plus you will have to paint them with the tires on and thats a mess. Rims are cheaper than you think.

Re: stock rims...

Just wait it out until you have money for some new rims. And be happy that your stock rims are not as ugly as mine

Re: stock rims...

Worst case scenario you paint them, hate them, and have to wait the same amount of time you would have had to anyway to by some new rims.

Re: stock rims...

My buddy had his stock rims powder coated. It only cost about $200 for all four. came out great. Plus powder coating is a lot stronger than paint.

Yeah, I agree with blue-saleen... try and paint them, and if you don't like them, just wait and save up for some new wheels. It's worth a try! Good luck!
