Ok fellas... it may be that time...

Mustang Fox body

So I have a few bucks to spend, not more than a grand, and I ran across this ad. For 800 I am thinking this wouldn't be a bad little project to have... comments/ideas/advice?

Check the torque boxes. Looks like that engine was put in there recently, I'd be wary of what was done to the car before.

I know you're just looking for a platform to build from but check to make sure you have a solid starting point.

engine looks pretty decent considering the outside looks like it needs a lot of work. pretty fair price.

Re: Ok fellas... it may be that time...

It depends on what you want to do with it. If you plan to work with a four banger and do little mods that's okay. But if you plan to upgrade to a V8 you will end up replacing a bunch of other parts as well. You can get a 5.0 in about the same cond. for a little more money. I went from a four banger like yours to a turbo (SVO) to a 2002 GT and I tell you something, I will not go back to four bangers, unless you are getting an SVO. Other than that, save your money and go bigger, you'll find something good when the time is right. Good luck.

Re: Ok fellas... it may be that time...

when it comes to fox bodies, and even more so for notchback fox bodies... they are generally considered by thier owner to be worth their weight in gold unless they are heavily raced, extremely rusty (a little rust or etc is still worth gold weight on market)

So if they are trying to unload it for super cheap it may have major issues (frame twist, damage, wrecked, salvaged, death trap, stolen, smells like death, who knows

Just be careful and get someone that knows mutangs in your area like a shop that rebuilds them and restores them to inspect it. 800 isnt a bad deal if it checks out.

If you wont have a good bit of coin to invest in it then I would pass and wait on a nice condition one to roll your way for around 6-10k (depending on condition of course and if its a notch or not)

Re: Ok fellas... it may be that time...

I would love for you to have a car Nate, but honestly I'm not sure if this really is what your looking for based on the pictures. It's going to need a helluva lot of work overall. I think you would be better to keep your eye out and keep looking.

We shall see, I am going to look at it tonight. I'm not too hopeful, I may use the money for a new top for the jeep, which is what I need anyway, just got caught up in the excitement of it all haha.

On Home - Discount Tire Direct you can get a set of 33x12.5x15 BFG KM2's for 836 shipped to your door.
Winter is close approaching, my tires are still in good shape, and I have a top full of holes and no back windows. Top is priority, I don't need to compensate for anything with bigger tires... plus once you add mount and balance, way too much.

That's why you do the mounting yourself and just let the balance go ---> You can always say there is mud on your rims or in the brakes causing the Vibes.

If I am spending that much on tires, you better believe I am going to get them balanced.

Too many 93s in the ad. I can see this leading to a lot of troubleshooting if a hack did all the work. Keep looking, I see these on the side of the road regularly.

Re: Ok fellas... it may be that time...

I think you could get one in alot better shape for a little more money. But sometimes it evens out if you buy cheap then spend more in restoration or buy expensive and not spend hardly any in restoration.

Re: Ok fellas... it may be that time...

If I were in your situation I'd pass on this one and go ahead and get the top for your jeep and keep looking while your saving for another one.
