Question If you had $2500-3000 to spend what would you do?

Alright i'll be selling my other ranger and f150 here soon. I'm thinking about throwing some cash into the mustang. Preferably into the prefromance. So if you had that to spend what would you do?

Already have gears, exhaust, chip and a good CAI. So besides that?

Similar to what? A stock cobra?

You have a GT though, and since you like it so much, I would look into prepping the car for a future power adder like has been mentioned with the intake and maybe some head work. Had you had a V6, I would agree with jumping on a cobra. But, I'd look at a good set of heads/cams/intake for the time being.

I respect the GT guys but I promise, you get in a Cobra and you'll regret waiting so long to do it.

I'm actually pretty impressed with the trick flow package. Says 390hp/375tq which is plenty of power for me for a while. Long run i'd love to go FI, but i'm in no rush. I'm planning to keep this mustang for a long time.

I've driven stock cobra's before. I use to work at the local ford dealership. They are badass cars no doubt, but I dont feel like dumping 10k more into another car. Plus try and sell my gt for what it is worth. When I could spend 3k and get right around the same kind of power a stock cobra gets, but i'd be NA. Which leave's room for a power adder. I just dont see the point in wasting that much money. Anyone could go out a buy a cobra and be billy badass, but I like a challenge. As much as I love the cobra's. I think a GT that has been built is a bit more interesting. Not to mention you pull up in a GT and there's no telling what all or how much as been done to it. With a cobra you loose that. Because you already know stock its a bad car.

I don't agree with you at all. Why start with a platform completely underrated to a current GT and dump money into it just to become near about the same level. Challenge yes, but pulling up to a red light with a modded GT that is a ticking time bomb and losing to a lightly modded if at all modded car is no fun. You making 400hp peak in your GT is not going to put you on a level with a stock Cobra. Your dyno graph is going to be a steady incline to your max power while a Cobra dyno is going to be near or close to peak horsepower from 3500 rpm to near redline. /\ compared to /----\
I had my Cobra for two years and I only went after big dogs. Including the infamous Ferrari that I wrecked my car doing 90mph on a 90 degree right turn trying to follow. Or the Bright Orange Lambo around here whose *** end got ate up by my car down a windy road. I chased Z06s, modded SSs, and others.

There is plenty to be had in a Cobra. Everybody underrates them outside of the Mustang World. Every single Nissan/Mitsubishi/etc etc etc has no idea about the car if thats your thing. Most Camaro Z28s or SS or GTOs think they have a dying chance.

With a Cobra you pick up a strong platform with proven potential. 400 or 500 HP mark is no longer considered spectactular in current day. I would look for something close to 700+

The 4V platform is leaps and bounds over the 2V. Atleast buy a 99/01 or a Mach 1.

You want me to have one so bad. Feel free to give me the money to do it. Unlike some I dont NEED 700hp to have fun. I'm not looking to have a jet. 400hp will do me just fine for what I need and everything you say is your personal opinion. I had the option of getting a 97 cobra that was already supercharged, but I passed on it. 400-500hp would be more then I would need. It would give me plenty of power to run with a cobra if I wanted too. I just dont see the point in wasting extra money to buy a whole other car when I have a perfectly good car sitting in my driveway. That's your choice if YOU want to blow money like that. My total investment in this car to reach that power and of bought the car would be around $12,000. Now tell me how I would be able to get a 03-04 cobra for that? I cant even get a low mileage 99/01 cobra for that around here. A high mileage one yes that I would have to rebuild the motor if I wanted to do anything to it. My GT has under 80k miles. Most 99/01 cobras in that price range have over 100k. It's just not worth it.

I would purchase the patriot heads I've wanted for so long and start on my long awaited project of building a bottom end to support 650rwhp on a single turbo setup.

Why not buy a wrecked cobra and convert your gt into one, I'm sure there is a junkyard somewhere near you that has one and you could buy cheap.

Schools already covered. Dont have the tools or know how to get all that swapped over. So not worth it.

You'll blow the extra money when it comes time to rebuild the engine... then your be in 03/04 Cobra price range (w/out the 6 speed, IRS, Fully built bottom end, and all around SOLID car)

I guess the major question is also a very simple one, how much performance do you want? You dont need 600rwhp for a street car unless its simply for bragging rights as thats all its good for. You can make a fun car out of the GT and have just as much fun as a cobra and keep it reliable. When you push much more than 400-450rwhp in a 99-05 mustang thats right at what I would consider the limit for a daily driver.

300rwhp would be a fun car especially since the GT is lighter than a 3700lb cobra

I think that statement settles the whole "get another car" debate. You have a perfectly good one in your driveway and are happy with it and have a goal for it.

If we were talking 25000-30000, I would be on the "get a cobra" train. However, we are talking about 2500-3000. You can't buy another car for that. You'd have to sell a car you're happy with to do it and "hope" you got enough out of it to get to cobra level.

I stick with my previous statements...look for heads first, then think about cams and intake manifolds. You already have the suspension and gears, so, open up the top end...let it breathe better.

GT isn't a DD its a fun weekend car. So i'd love to be around the 400rwhp range.

I would be on the "get a Cobra" train too, if we were talking 20+ G's. But look at it like this: the cobra is already supercharged with 3v heads from the factory, so of course you will have to spend money to get similar numbers on a GT. You could spend 25K on a Cobra with 375+ HP ready at the wheels, or get a GT for less than 10K in decent condition, and put that extra 15K into the GT and have a lot more power than a stock Cobra.
