OK, My girlfriend has her heart set on a 1999 v6 auto with 140k on the clock for $4200. I found a 2002 GT in the same condition, auto, 155k on the clock for $4500.
Now either I need some backup to convince her the GT is a better deal and an all around better car, or I need some to correct me if I'm wrong. I don't have any experience with the New Edge cars (Fox Guy) so any input will be appreciated!! This will be her car and I know its her choice, I just don't want her to get screwed, or tell me she should have listened to me and then be stuck with the V6!
Thanks!!
By the way she hasn't driven the GT yet but I have driven both and there is a hell of a difference power and fun wise!!

Get her to drive the gt. The sixes go through head gaskets like a fat kid through chocolate bars. The 8 comes with the stronger 8.8 rear, Get very close to the same mileage and best of all, sounds great. The 8 is a bit more of a handful than the 6 but with delicate driving is just fine.

Depends on how she drives. GT is faster ,of course, so If she's into cars buy the GT.

Proof is in the pudding... Get her to drive the GT and she'll see for herself why she needs to get the GT!

Re: V6 vs V8 Need some backup!!

Yah the 99-04 v6's and GT's driving feel are like night and day in stock form. The torque of that 4.6L just puts it yards ahead of the 3.8, even in auto form. Plus, you get that v8 sound, no v6 can touch that

I like what Lalayla said, if she's into cars get the GT, but I must also say, even if she isn't into cars, still get the damn GT

Re: V6 vs V8 Need some backup!!

I looked at the car you're talking about on craigslist. Did you say you drove that actual car? If so, how did it perform and what was the actual condition...it looks good in the 2 pics, but we all know pics can be deceiving...

Oh no I haven't driven that actual car, I have driven several New Edge GT's though, some with more miles than that one and I much prefer a fixer upper GT to a decent V6. Which hopefully its not too much of a fixer upper if one at all.

Re: V6 vs V8 Need some backup!!

Yah I won't argue there...there are so many GT's out there that you can find replacement parts no problem.

I noticed the seller didn't mind offers, so I'd offer slightly less than the asking 4500...never hurts to save a few hundred bucks.

If the car was well maintained than the mileage really shouldn't be too much of a concern...it's perfectly normal for certain things to wear out and need replacement...that's just the nature of a car, but neglect will constitute a ton of other problems that could've been avoided.

Price is to high for the 6 go with the gt. A v6 mustang 2002 over 100K miles, I would only pay $3000-3500 for it.

the gt has the 4.6 litre which has a proven track record for reliability.it's the same motor found in the police cruisers and taxicabs The fuel consumption is only slightly more in the gt but has the go when you need it. The gt is 3 years newer and although mileage is similar that is still 3 years of salt and sun and so on. The gt will retain it's resale value when and if you decide to see it.the v6 is at least 500 over priced easily. And come on ITS A MUSTANG GT.... it sounds great looks great handles great... That would be like having the choice between a mustang gt vs the same body style v6 and choosing the v6 cause you can save 200 bucks. Oh that is the choice here oops .... And besides walk up with a pile of cash for the gt and tell your wife your gonna get it for same price as the v6.

These cars are great, but with 180+ I'm going to warn you. There will be issues, there will be breakdowns, and there will be moments when u regret buying the car due to the mileage..I'm only telling u this bc I want u to know that whether u got the GT or V6 the problems would have happened to either. Don't feel like u should have gotten the other and def don't let her make that comment at u. Bc I promise its coming one day. Get the GT & enjoy

Well, ****ty news from the lawyer after waiting for the past week to find out about the money.
We probably wont get the rest of the money until next week or possibly after the new year. I just hope that GT is meant to be. The people still have it and they have dropped the price to $4350. They want $500 to hold it for a week and we just dont have that to spare. Oh well, everything happens for a reason I guess!!

Don't look to desperate and if that sells there is always another. Look on the corral. They always have cars going up in the classifieds and you may find one with the mods you want already and the seller never gets all there money back on upgrade. Something will cone along if this doesn't happen. Merry Christmas

Oh yah, not acting desperate at all, just told them we didnt want to come see it or dive it empty handed. Once I have money in hand, then i can bump the price. I sold cars for about 3 years so i know the little tricks. Lol.

I disagree. A well maintained gt will run for a long time. The v6 goes through head gaskets every 60-70k miles. I've had one. My current gt has 340k km on the original engine build. No issues at all.

I would imagine thy the GTs hold their resale value better, too.
