Re: Good mustang year?

Oh and the name is Mike btw.
I have always preferred a manual over an auto. My second car was a manual, and I had to learn how to drive it myself.
I like to drive my cars, not have them drive me!
Both the Cobra and the Contour are both manuals. My g/f's GT is an auto and I hate driving it.....kinda.....

Re: Good mustang year?

yeah but the difference between me and them is that I'm a dude.
I have sorta experience in manual, my mom's car is a half manual? if thats what you call it, it's a veracruz, with auto but I can shift in it, it's weird but nothing like a clutch. I guess I'll have to ask my friend to learn with first

Yup, once you get the hang of it you will probably not like auto anymore!

Re: Good mustang year?

Yah for 9k you could probably pick up a decent 99-04 GT with the 4.6L SOHC modular V8...stock rated at 260hp and 300tq at the crank. Not a bad v8 if it's your first. Or you could try and find a 94-98 cobra with the 4V DOHC 4.6L...I've seen some going for less than 9k with slightly high miles. All depends on what you want.

If you aren't familiar with driving a manual car...learn on a crappy car first. Find a friend with that $300 beater and ask if you can learn/practice on that car. Get proficient in shifting and finding the clutch's friction point and you'll be good to go. It's really not that hard once you start doing it. Every car is different but mastering the basics will make driving your car much easier.

I would recommend getting a manual...I have an auto and I wish I had the manual...much more fun and you have control of the car when driving it.

As said, check around autotrader and other credible online sites for cars...any questions post up links and we'll help out best we can.

I'd stay away from the rebuilds for now. You really don't know whether the work was done properly. There's nothing worse than buying a rebuilt car because it's cheaper and 2 weeks later you're sitting there with a blown engine trying to figure out how you're going to pay to get it running again.

That GT looks alright...104k km is ~ 66k miles, so that's decent mileage for the year...if you like the car go check it out...if you're not familiar with cars or engines take a friend/relative who is a mechanic or body shop tech to help you determine whether it's clean and in as good of shape as the owner claims on c.l.

For the money I would go with the 01. That is the type of car you should be looking for.
As was posted before, if you like it, take a look in person, and bring someone more knowledgeable along with you to check it out as well!

Re: Good mustang year?

One hell of a deal here!
2000 Mustang GT, PRICED FOR QUICK SALE 5400

The first two look really good as well, and as long as the new clutch was installed properly, then its definitely a good thing!

Yea? I'll call what should I say?
Should I offer 5400 or less?
Someone told me whenever I get a car to get a compression test
Anything to ask about? Car fax, VIN?

Re: Good mustang year?

If you have a way to take a look at it, just see when a good time is to do it. If you can get the VIN, you can run a carfax and an autocheck if you want. Make sure for the price the title is clear and not rebuilt/salvaged. Not sure how that works up there, but here in the states, some cars have salvage titles or rebuilt titles, probably the same there.
If you go take a look at it and you can't get someone with knowledge to help you, there are plenty on here that will.

"will gladly challenge any inspection, mechanic look over."
Should I ask to get a compression test done? should I ask a mechanic to come with me or ask somebody from here to come?

Re: Good mustang year?

Unless you have a buddy or something that knows about cars, then you could probably have your mech. go with. Might cost you some money though.
If there is someone on here that is close to you and you can get them to help, then sure, why not?
I don't have a passport, so you couldn't just buy me a bus ticket lol!

Re: Good mustang year?

You could compression test it yourself instead of paying a mechanic to go with you.

Re: Good mustang year?

You will have to pay for em. It's like $35 for one or $45 for 5. I would just get the pack of 5, that way if the first car you look at and run through is not acceptable, you still have 4 left for any others you look at.

Re: Good mustang year?

Do all carfax websites have the same info? Cause carfax has 45$ for 5, and autocheck has unlimited + Titleguard (whatever that is) for 60 and unlimited reports for $45

Re: Good mustang year?

lols thats bad right
This is off topic, my friend just asked me this, she has a 92 acura Integra, she wants to put in a skyline engine. Does anyone have any info on this?
Is this the place to post this? or should I go to acura/skyline forums.

Re: Good mustang year?

I would try the acura/skyline forums. Don't think many of us have experience with imports

I'm pretty sure a skyline faces north/south. It's not a transverse engine. Meaning sideways set up for fwd. Integra gsr motors are supposed to be strong.
