Re: dumbest mistake you've made

Put on a 75mm throttle body on a stock intake and cut the stock gasket, forgot about the coolant passage inside and sucked coolant down the intake. Luckily it was only enough to foul the plugs and not hydrolock the engine. Pulled the plugs, blew the water out, and reinstalled the stock one again. Felt like a complete idiot for that one.
That was on my sister's '86 just the other day! Talk about brain fart, I've been working on Foxes for over 5 years!

One night of street racing I had just installed underglow that day and when I turned it on along with all my gauges I took off and all of a sudden the car dies.... Pull into an apartment complex to figure it out.... First checked air all turbo pipes were good... Then checked spark all was good... Removed all plugs to check them it seemed good.... Finally a trip to walmart and 2 hours later I realized I didn't hear the fuel pump running.... It was a blown fuse lol replaced it with the fuse from my foglights after turning underglow and gauges off and she started right up.... I have now vowed to always check fuses first lol crazy night

Haha that seems like a sh**y night!! I hate those days, speaking of fuses a few months back I was driving and saw a ricer smoking on side of road, so figured I could use the karma and pulled over, the idiot cut his amp wire going under the pedals and left wire exposed which lit the carpet on fire which he stomped out, then he left, I catch him 5 miles down the road with blown fuses, funny sh**

Re: dumbest mistake you've made

I was working on my rear brakes and could not figure out why the calipers would not release a 30 minute brake job took about 2 1/2 hours. Well I released that when I don't know something be smart and ask. I found out that the tool you need to release can be rented for free at the parts house. Well after the tool was in my hand it took no time.

Re: dumbest mistake you've made

When installing my CAI in my 06 V6, I had a hard time connecting the mass air meter to the unit. After much cussing and a couple Torx which were not working, I realized I had pulled the stock PCV tube and set it aside with the stock intake - I needed that! Once I added that needed piece, it clamped on perfectly!

Damn, I wish that was the dumbest thing I've ever done, I would call myself a genius minus the length of time it took

A few weeks back I rotated my tires and then went to work. After I got off and I was walking to my car I saw that my center caps were gone. I thought some ******* stole them for a $. When I got home I saw them laying where I had placed them earlier. I was very happy for being stupid then.

The first time I changed my front brake pads I somehow put the pads on backwards on the drivers side....few days later my brake fluid was gone n I had to keep putting more in everytime I drove
took her to my mechanic (the only one I trust with my baby) and he said there was a hole in the caliper....ooops
I know to be more careful and since then I've chaned them again n all is good
: )

Try this, taking off from a dead stop I smoke 1st, chirp 2nd then 3rd and for some reason (tequila) think it's a good idea to pull the ebrake. I was able to hold it on the road until I was almost to a stop then hello telephone pole! I miss that car. That was my first mustang. 91lx 5.0 R.I.P.

Now that I think about that, it doesn't classify as a dumb mistake, that was just plain dumb.

Haha nicely played! I took one over (yes I said over) a guard rail off a 20 foot embankment due to black ice, thank god it wasn't a stang!

I did use Super Clean degreaser to clean my dash on a car once. Unless if you like the faded look, don't do that.

1. once i put wiper fluid in the overflow tank of my gf's dads' truck.

2. i rotated the tires on my 91 z-28...got a half mile down the road and heard a grinding, pulled over and seen metal shavings everywhere...all on the pavement and inside the rims. the damn wheels were off-set, i thought gm had only did that on the vettes. i had to re-rotate the tires on the side of the road.

3. i just built a brand new motor..fired it up, let it idle. checking the gauges, but the oil pressure is at zero. i primed the pump before i put the intake on..im think'n wtf? is the gauge bad? nope...i didnt install the oil pump shaft when i dropped in the distributor

4. i bought a brand new msd btm box from a guy for $50 bucks ($245.00 @ jeg's) cause he thought it didnt work on his car...he just had it wired wrong.

Same! My mom wouldn't let me probably. She hardly let me get my busted Eclipse.

Re: dumbest mistake you've made

haha the only reason i havent done anything drastically stupid is bc i havent done a ton of serious work on my car. i did think i had fried my head unit bc it was wired wrong (at least thats what the shop told me) but when i got my new one and they installed it, i pulled it out to find out that they had reused ALL of my wiring harness. the only thing they did differently was tap into a power source somewhere else bc the ignition power didnt come through the harness. so basically the shop blew up my 1st head unit then used my work for the install. dicks

My dumbest mistake was not fully putting on my lug nuts. Going down a hill I heard a loud *** noise pulled over the see my tire had almost came off. 1500$ cobra rims. Mared the holes pretty bad and busted all but 2 lug nut studs. So now I have a rim that the outside still looks fine but the inside it pretty much destroyed lol. Now I freak out and tighten my lug nuts to the max. I felt like a total dumbass on that one.
