The fox is just a cool car. I think the lx notchback is about the most plain looking body car u can find and is probably the coolest fox made. I remember in the early 90's passing a line of gt's at the dealer to order a base lx 5.0. That body went from 79-93 and it kicked the camaro's *** until 93 so it's got a good reputation to go along with it.

The perfect definition of sleeper.... Camaros were a lumbering elephant compared to the foxes. They looked just dead sexy from behind with 10 inch wide ponys. And so nimble. Handled similar to an import with Enough torque to pull a trailer.

They were built with one thing in mind: cheap speed.

There still to this day has not been a car that is more readily modifiable than the 5.0s. The aftermarket for them is huge, and the parts are relatively cheap. You can make them do anything: whether its carve corners, light it up at the strip, look good at the shows, or do a little of all the above.

Not to mention, the 87-93 Mustang basically saved the Mustang. Until it came along, we were all destined to a fate worse than death... This site could be "probeevolution.com" you know...
Pretty much...it's undeniable, if you want to go fast for cheap, buy a fox.
While I don't prefer the body style over the new edges, there are still a ton of foxes out there that look hawt! Hell, spray one in sonic blue, throw on some 10.5" cobras and I'm sold

Yeah the foxes did revive the mustang...it was definitely on a downward slope in the late 70's early 80's with all the emissions and ****. But the 96-98's weren't all that impressive either, the cobras were alright but the v6's and GT's were dogs. Mustang sales hit a low point for the SN95 in 97 so Ford decided on a much needed makeover.

Don't completely agree with that. Foxes have a cool factor all alone. Good rep because they killed the gm f-bodies. The bodies changed for the sn95 but the concept was the same and the cars didn't really get bigger. I parked next to a 2010 gt500 and wow. That thing made my car look like a mg. New edge is a big car. The 70's models got big too and see how that went. 2010 gt500 runs around 12.50 with 500+hp. Terminator does the same with 390hp. Do the math.

Good point here. The S-197 cars are friggin boats compared to the foxes. I love the newer ones, but I just don't think I could have one. You can get a Fox into the mid 12's on the cheap, and still have a very respectable and nice looking car.
Not a day goes by that I'm out in mine and I don't get any comments or offers to buy it.
Not too many Foxes running around my town anyway, but when I see another one, I get the Mustang wave every time!

Right out of the box the edge cars handle great. Foxes are respectable once the traction issues are addressed

I think you mean S197...your car is a "new edge", well technically it's a SN95 built off the fox platform, but was nicknamed new edge with the edgier design and tougher look compared to the previous body style.

And when I meant go fast for cheap, I meant from a near stock n/a car perspective. The 03/04 cobras and newer GT500's are in their own realm which = pure badassness...I mean come one, exhaust, intake, pulley and a tune and your 450-500rwhp (termi's).

The newer mustangs 05+ are definite pigs...the 94-04's aren't as heavy, that's for sure, but they're still heavier when compared to the foxes.

I hear ya. Just was upset to see the mustang get bigger. The fox is a dangerous little animal to drive. My 01 notchback would tear *** in a straight line but don't try turning. My cobra is a different monster all together. The new ones are a safer car for sure because of the platform change. Fell in love with the fox way back when and wanted to see the mustang stay small and evil.

Yah but they didn't start out that way...

65 mustang - 108" wheelbase, 181.6" long, 68.2" wide, and 2060lbs (fastback)

73 mustang - 109" wheelbase, 193.8" long, 74.1" wide, and 3560lbs (351CJ)

Keep in mind that's comparing a 289 car to a 351 cobra jet, so there's some weight gained from the engine, but I think I'm safe saying the majority is in the car.

Re: foxes

im not complaining on the larger size of the newer cars. im only six foot. im really fukn tired of my knees rubn the steering wheel in my notch. i dont like how i have to move my left leg to the side to keep my knee from rubn the steering wheel when i come off the clutch in my 97 stang. i used to drive a 96 ranger regular cab for work years ago. my knee would turn off the left turn signal when i came off the clutch. lets not even get started on the second generation probe, that **** is just retarded.

Hell I'm only 5'10 and have trouble in my fox with getting in and out 'cause my knees get caught on the steering wheel.
