I'll give you the tip I've always worked off of...

For an automatic, change fluid every 75k, if you wait until after 100k don't bother.

For a manual, change fluid when you change clutch.

Re: Trasmission fluid flush...

I prefer do my auto's at 50k, but 75k is a good number. After the 100k mile mark, you could cause problems if its never been done before.

It is important to do though. Change the filter while your at it.

Be sure to get the rear end about the same times. I like to do all mine earlier, but that's b/c I have easy access to all of it at work and it usually doesn't cost me a dime.

Re: Trasmission fluid flush...

I recommend changing auto trans fluid every 25-30k~ why? The number one reason autos die is heat, the second... fluid is dirty.

Re: Trasmission fluid flush...

Most police garages change the trans fluid and filter every 12-15k, usually every 3rd oil change. Cop cars are really rough on transmissions, so this might be excessive for a civilian car. BUT..... Ford builds a great car, but their automatic transmissions are junk. Any extra care I can give mine that will make it last longer is good insurance.
