More imports on the road!

This is a sad thing we played a little game today and counted imports vs domestics. I would say 75% to 80% of cars were imports. Granted its still early march and most Stangs and other "summer" cars are still parked. I bet the percentage won't drop that much even in July! Sad...

Re: More imports on the road!

Most people aren't going for performance. Most want to have high mileage high efficiency commuter cars. That's prob why there is more imports than the muscle stuff.

Re: More imports on the road!

I agree but seriously just because you drive a import doesn't mean you'll get 300K without problems. I just think it's sad people shy away from domestics. My winter beater is a 99 Escort wagon with 175K.

If that's the case then the Ford Fusion Hybrid should rule the road...

Honestly there are more import passenger cares out there because the domestics don't have much to offer. I've worked for gm dealers for 9 years. A year at Chrysler. And the rest at independent shops. Imports have a lot more to offer. I hate to say it but it's true. Just look at what is out there. Domestics still rule the sports car market and the truck and suv market but domestic pass cars suck for the most part. There's a lot of technical details I could go into but I'll leave it at that.

Didn't realize that you were with Chrysler. I was shop foreman at riverlands dodge. Chrysler builds some of the worst damn vehicles out there. If it's not the hemi or diesel, it's crap.

Re: More imports on the road!

people buy/drive what they feel is best (not always what is best) so if the domestic guys cant figure out a way to make people want domestics.. then thats whats going to keep happening.

Well contrary to what you guys think... the Dodge vehicles are slowly getting better. I think Fiat def. has the ability to turn this company around. The new trucks are amazing and the Diesel trucks are finally working out the kinks with the emissions. They all have their problems but Dodge IMO is making major improvements.

Although they are still POS

I hope you are right, it would be nice to have the big 3 alive and healthy again. I would buy an old dodge like a 69 charger or something but that would be about it. Even the old hemis had their problems though. Too much clearance for one. Old school mopar burned as much oil as they did gas.

Re: More imports on the road!

I hate that Im seeing so many on the road too
Idk why everyone has to go to Toyotas and Hondas mainly for fuel economy
I doubt that all domestic cars are that bad
Im sure there is something that gets good gas mileage, is comfortable, somewhat reliable, and is domestic
My fiance actually turned to me today and said he was thinking if the gas prices get any worse that we should get a honda or toyota as a daily driver
Idk if he was kidding or not but I was about to kill him then and there!!
My family has been either Ford or GM and I would like it to stay that way, if I am gonna pay that much for something I want domestic
I told him this was the food chain line with me:
If we cant find a decent Ford
then we try Chevy, nothing?
Then we look at Dodge then Pontiac...if still nothing is good then we don't need it...

Things are looking up for ford. Sales are way up, at the front is the fiesta and the mustang. Ford is even talking about a diesel mustang for europe. If ford keeps it up they could be one of the top auto makers in the world in the next decade or so.

Re: More imports on the road!

It's a matter of time. Everyone above is on the spot. The reliability thing really drove people away from the domestic market. Also fuel efficiency and amenities, but as time goes by we will see more domestics on the road. The Fusion is a great example it's been a top pick in Consumer Reports for a while.

Well what people don't realize is that a lot of the time The American engineers design something then the Japanese market innovates it. It's easy to look at something someone makes and make it better. Hard to make it originally.

Yeah for real if these import guys had any idea how much the mustang and the datsun/skyline have in common. A lot of the design for the coupe datsun came from ford enginers. Hell if we didn't take ideas half of us would still be turn our engines over with a hand crank.
