I think you van give them your vin number and your all set. What upgrades are you referring too. A tuner gives you power right off the bat. And increases with the octane. A tuner is a great and necessary part to realize the full potential of any and all mods

K...don't waste your money on a cai. On a new edge it's doesn't help. If you really want to get more air into your sixxer go to the scrapyard and find a ford windstar minivan. The intake flows better than your stocker and is good for 10 hp. And it's a bolt on. A buddy of mine did it and was really happy. He is in the petom forum. I suggest asking him. He has one helluva mod list and did the wrench work himself.

There aren't any cons really. Just don't advance the timing.

In the options you can advance timing in 3 rpm ranges. Just don't play with them. Done deal

Re: Anyone with SCT tuner experiance

your 4 digit ecm number is located directaly on the ecm. your ecm should be located on the passangerside panel under the glove box right in front of the passanger door. remove the panel to access the ecm. it should be right on top of the ecm. they will need to know this and according to AM they couldnt get it from you vin #. website for reference Your Mustang's Computer Code (1987-2011+) - The Basics at AmericanMuscle.com

mods are stuff to modify your motor to gain horsepower, all a tuner really does is fine tune the ecm to use those mods to their potental.

I've had a few of the SCT tuners. An x cal 2 that I used with my supercharged 04 and I've used the x cal3 and the live wire. They're all great tuners. I currently have the live wire and I would've rather gone with the xcal 3. The xcal units just plug and play like a trouble code reader. You plug it in, load the tune, unplug and you're good to go. If you start to do a lot of mods and bolt ons like some of the other member are suggesting, I highly recommend a dyno tune if you can afford it. It will get your air/fuel ratio exactly were you want it and the tune will be custom to your car. If you go with the AM bama tune, you'll need your computer number, list of mods and what octane gas you'll be using, what tire size and gear ratio. You can go in and change just about all the values for timing, fuel, gear ratio, tire size all with the hand held. You can also read and delete data trouble codes.

Pro's and con's..... the live wire you can leave hooked up and it will support up to 3 gauges I think, that plug into the unit. However I've talked to a few tuners and they say they've been having problems with some of the earlier units that came out having problems loading and unloading the tunes. Personally I'd go with the xcal2 or 3, they are plug and play, easy to use and once you unplug you're ready to go and the programmer goes in the glove box or wherever you want it to.
