Question Automatic: Shift kit or tuner?

I used to hear a lot about how an aftermarket shift kit could do wonders for an automatic transmission, but not so much anymore.
Now all everyone is talking about is how much a tuner can do for automatics.
Does the tuner do the same thing as a shift kit?
Does it help, or hurt, to have both?

Re: Automatic: Shift kit or tuner?

I personally like the idea of the tuner simply because it's much easier to install and manage. If you no longer want the aggressive shifting, simply load the stock tune back into your car, simple as that.

With a shift kit you have to start upgrading components in the valve body to get those better shift points and eliminate that slippage.

I'd say it's one or the other...if it were me, I'd go with the tuner.

Thanks for the input. Is there anyone out there with a shift kit that would like to chime in?

Good advice. The tuner also make it so you can adjust the shift points to whatever you choose. And adjust back at will. A shift kit requires the tranny be adjusted from the inside, thereby paying a mechanic. The tuner does so much more than just adjust shift points. And the cost would likely be comparable. Plus 1 on the tuner

Re: Automatic: Shift kit or tuner?

tune it to shift better dont modify the valve body manually~ no real need for a street car
