Exclamation California Emissions Please Enlighten Me

When I ordered my Mustang I was told that it had to have the California emissions package because I live in a neighboring state. Can anyone tell me what is different in the California emissions package? I know in the past it was never a good thing for preformance or milage.
Thank you
DACriss

very good question, I want to know my self.. I also dont think a state next to them should be regulated to the same stupid standard ... its their own issue.

Re: California Emissions Please Enlighten Me

stricter missfire and evaprative emissions by the onboard computer, and smog pump. those are the only real differences i know. you wont need to for a while but if the emission stuff starts to give you problems you can tune it out later. my philosophy, if it didnt need it in the 60s it dont need it now.

Yah I remember a kid in my high school that drove his mom's 02 vert from time to time. It was originally from CA so it had the emissions package on it and it was slow as balls. Those additions really bogged it down. Glad mine was a Florida car.

No BS mr. sensitive, and the planet will be around waaay longer than we ever will. At the rate we're going, it'll most likely be a rather giant bomb that ends mankind, not melting polar ice caps.

Besides you can afford to give up a few hp, you got a new shelby, my 03 and rather primitive v6 needs all the hp it can get

I HATE CALIFORNIAS EMMISIONS!!!! I love living in San Diego cause we only have one kind of weather, nice but I guess i pay for it by having smog stuff. If it was up to me , those dumb cats and maybe even muffler (probly not) would be torn right off I keep all my stock stuff like my cai in case I have to revert to that incase my car doesn't pass

Lol sure. Did you know when you bought your 2011 cobra you had to pay an emissions tax? Look through the paper work. That mustang of yours puts out some nasty emissions for a 2011. Coming from a ford dealer technician.

The 2011 DIDN'T have the gas guzzler tax. Ford got an extra mile out of the MPG so it cleared the gas guzzler tax in 2011.

It must be a 2010 because the 2011 DIDN'T have the gas guzzler tax.

It may be where you are located. California has different emissions laws for sure. They don't have that here.

Nope. We just got a 2012 cobra in with the same tax. We have no 2010 mustangs left except in the used car area. The 2011 cobra gets 15 city 24 hwy. No where near a green gas saving car.

Are you in Texas? Like AL said it must be the state you're in, because California doesn't have it. How much is it?

Yes tx. It's about $1600 and I would be surprised if Cali didn't have it. Cause Cali is more strict than tx. And the emissions are the same on all cobras. Mustang gts can have different emission packages but the cobra is special and has only one emissions package.

I'm telling you, I own one and there wasn't one for 2011 the 2010 had a 1000.00 gas guzzler tax for the 14/22 mpg. The 2011 15/23 cleared the the gas guzzler tax here. I can post my window sticker if you don't believe me.
