Want a meaner 98 GT

Hey guys! New to the site, but wanted some input. I have a white 98 GT that I'm wanting to beef up. Its got 17" Cobra R rims, Saleen Spoiler, Diablo chip, Dualled Flowmaster Exhaust, and performance long tube headers. Any ideas for upgrades for exterior and performance? I was thinking a CAI and a hood scoop? Will post pics soon.

I say pi swap from a 99 to 04 GT and get a JLT CAI. The PI Swap will add around 50 hp while the JLT 10 to 15. Go JLT for the CAI though because they have a better designed tube.

Haha. For sure guys. I forgot to mention, I'm on a budget. I'm 17. But dropping a turbo or a procharger is something that I'm wanting to do in the near future though.

BTW, would any of you have any upgrades you'd like to sell? Just curious.

Taking the heads and intake off the 99 to 04 mustang and putting them on your block. Cost can range from 300 to 1500 gotta look for deals

Re: Want a meaner 98 GT

yea the 99-04 got an upgrade in heads/intakes and bumped the hp to 260/300 and when you do the same on yours since yours ends up with a higher compression its more about 285hp~

Try to find romeo heads on not windsors. They arent near as prone to the blown out spark plugs and they take less parts for the conversion as well. There are good write ups all over the internet. Mid 01 up should all have romeo heads. Be careful if buying 99-01 heads

Alright guys. Now, how involved is a PI swap? Could I do it? Or do I need to take it to a shop?

what is your mechanical abilities? you are going to have to change the heads. which means you are going to have to remove the timing chains. you will then have to retime your motor. which isnt fun on these modular engines. i would take it to a shop just so you get some warranty. its not very easy to do without a good source of tools. torque wrench. metric sockets. timing tools

Haha. Yea. I'm only 17, so the resources arent great, but this definitely sounds like something I'd like to do in the near future. I know for a fact I'm fixing to drop a JLT CAI on it. So we'll see if that will help me out some also.

Re: Want a meaner 98 GT

to me cai are overrated. im going to put factory back on mine. the hp numbers they give are not correct and ppl that say they "work amazing" are under the placebo effect usually. some cars they help out but usually the factory draws cold air from the fender-well. also aftermarket filters do not filter the air as good as a factory filter does. this whole post is my opinion though. for the money a cai cost. i think its better spent elsewhere, again my opinion

Well thanks man. Honestly. I'm definitely up for opinions. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm pretty new to this, and I definitely want some advice from some more experienced drivers and fellow Stang owners.

Btw, I'm about to post a pic of my ride so y'all can tell me what y'all think.

Re: Want a meaner 98 GT

if you want a real hp boost. save up for a supercharger, turbo, cams, or this head swap. all the little "crap"(my opinion lol) that you put on there, cai, ud pulleys, intake spacers, add up in cost and dont put out that much hp. if you dont do the little stuff you can get something big, it is going to make a huge difference. my next mod is a kb supercharger.
