2006 v6 5 speed vs. 98 gt auto

No its not about street racing!!! Its about who would win because my friend talks a whole lot of crap!
I have a 98 gt with flow master and new piping fct tuner k&n cai automatic.
My friend has a stock 06 v6 5speed.

He said his car is faster than mine. I say no! Weight and hp are totally different any thoughts?

V6 would get smoked if all of what you said is true (mods)

Re: 2006 v6 5 speed vs. 98 gt auto

I agree with above. If you have the mods you say you do and the v6 is stock and both cars are in good running order the gt will win convincingly. Hp numbers may be fairly close stock but you have him on weight i believe and def on torque.

Re: 2006 v6 5 speed vs. 98 gt auto

well if hes good at a manual his shifting will be quicker and he will be able to hold out till a higher rpm, plus autos take away a lil more hp then manuals do. So idk it could be semi close. Ive seen some people with intakes and exhaust of your yr and auto trans putting out around 170 hp and 230 tq, so the hp is about the same, but you probably have about 30 to 25 more ft lbs of torque. Best way to find out is to just race you should win tho especially if he just got it cuz he probably wont be shifting perfectly.

Re: 2006 v6 5 speed vs. 98 gt auto

honestly I would just race him now before he gets too used to shifting if hes knew at it then, there should be no doubt in your mind that you will win. But honestly when he loses hell prolly tell you that he couldnt get it into gear or e had wheel spin, you know the typical things that people say when they lose a race. But at least you will have beat him. Just don't be stupid about racing and you should go to a track...

Anyways just tell him to put his money where his mouth is.

I think you would win anyway. Hp numbers are just talk. Back in 1970 my grandpa had a gto dyno'ed at 340hp. It was a 4 speed and he could run 11.4 seconds in the quarter mile. Mine dynos at 360hp yet runs a mid 12. And his car is slightly heavier. Numbers are numbers. Take him in a race and shut him up

Re: 2006 v6 5 speed vs. 98 gt auto

the only thing i can see is to go up to 60 he can just go first to second, whereas since you have an auto your car might not hold in 2nd long enough and then switch two 3rd losing both time and power.

Re: 2006 v6 5 speed vs. 98 gt auto

actually I would be careful... the 99+ V6 got a boost in hp/tq (193hp/225tq) vs your GT at 225hp and 285 (or was it 300?)tq...

so you can see you have some advantage, but his car is lighter (3150lbs vs your much heavier vehicle) and weight matters.

I would still think you have the edge for sure, stock for stock the v6 is capable of 15.5-15.9 second quarter mile times stock. Your GT is about 15.5~ stock... so... its not far fetched.

My old 01 v6 had gears, intake, exhaust, udp and could run 14.9s-15.2's~

The only mod that is going to really do anything for him is the tuner. And that's not much. Let's not start doing ricer math

The hp to weight ratio woulddefinatly be a factor

Re: 2006 v6 5 speed vs. 98 gt auto

ah yes 05+ is probably about the same performance as its heavier with a bit more hp~ might actually be slower due to extra weight. I am not sure how much 05-09 v6 manuals weigh.

Re: 2006 v6 5 speed vs. 98 gt auto

moral of the story dont underestimate a vehicle just based on how many cylinders or CI's etc it has... there are more factors to the equation to take into account and the V6s are quicker than most give them credit for.

Not really IMO. Even the v8's were dogs, IMO, until the S197's came about (with the exception of the termi, which I really like). When I had my 03 GT, I was always afraid of what would pull up next to me because so many of the non-Ford v6's were pushing more HP and faster numbers from the factory.
