The 96-98 4.6

Sorry if this has been posted a ton in the past, I just really want some opinions on this. If I don't plan to mod my car much (maybe just 3.73's), which engine should I be looking to get? The 94-95 5.0 or 96-98 4.6? I love SN-95's, so I'd like to stay in those year ranges, haha. Also, first timer here.

If you dont plan on modding the car much I would say to go with the 98 gt. It has the most power for the SN95s. If you want to mod go with a 5.0. They have a much better aftermarket following and you can get bigger power a lot easier. With the 96 to 98 to get big power you have to drop a bit of cash.

Alrighty. Thanks for the welcome! And do 5.0's last as long as 4.6's?

I'd shop around for a 96-98 Cobra. You can find one for $5500

got my 97 cobra for 4800, and stock 5.0s lasted a while. but when you went for high horsepower then things started to break...

5.0 is a better choice for many reasons (sound (opinion but still), ease to repair, more wanted, etc) and easier far cheaper to modify.

Re: The 96-98 4.6

I just helped my son buy a '94 GT with the 5.0. We have since found that there is not much available for these cars, unless you are willing to spend the BIG bucks. The aftermarket support is just not there. We learned the hard way that there is a huge difference between the Fox platform and the SN-95's. I would suggest that you look for a Cobra- at least you would be starting with 305HP.

It is always a good idea to do some research first when buying a muscle car to know exactly what you are getting, but there is no such thing as a bad stang.
