03 v6 rear brake help

I'm trying to replace my rear brakes on my 03 v6 stang. I just can't get the piston in the caliper to fully retract so I can fit it over the new pads. I released the brake fluid pressure in the line to get the caliper off. I was told by an auto parts store that I need a special tool ( it looks like a cube with different sides on it) so I went and got it. None of the sides fit into the piston, they told me to put the tool inside the piston and turn it clockwise to retract the caliper fully. Can anyone help with this problem? Please post any tips or comments you have and try to be specific since its my first time changing the brakes on this car. After I told him the cube didn't work he said I would have to be a "J" tool from napa.

find the side of the cube that most closely fits and grind down the sides of it until it will fit in the 2 slots. many cars use a different spacing than actually comes on those universal cubes
