Which should i get for my first Mustang V6 or GT 2012?

I am 25 will be 26 this January when I will purchase my Mustang. This will be my first sports car that I will own, I currently own a Chrysler Sebring 2004 which is 100% different from a Mustang. I would like to get some suggestions on which should I get, the 2012 V6 or the 2012 GT.

Check your insurance rates on both... I am partial to the GT but the V6 is a great car too..

I checked and it's $5.00 more a month for V6 and GT is $20.00 more a month from my Sebring

---------- Post added at 07:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:14 PM ----------

The main thing I'm wondering about is the jump from me driving low hp 4-6 cylinder regular cars to jumping to a GT 400+hp sports car

Re: Which should i get for my first Mustang V6 or GT 2012?

It's all in your driving style/habits. I'm sure you'd be careful and defensive when driving a $30k rwd v8.

Are you thinking about getting a manual transmission or an auto? The transmission will help determine the level of transition. If you're completely new to manuals, the mustangs will be a little bit trickier to learn on, but not impossible.

The +11 v6's are not your typical entry level cars anymore...over 300 hp, 6spd manual, traction lok rear end and high revving. That's a lot of car for the price and entry level.

The GT's definitely the golden ticket. The power from the factory is rediculous, not to mention the options you can add to the car.

For the insurance, I'd go for the GT.

Drive a GT and you won't even think about that V6. The 2012 GT as a first mustang would be a dream come true for anyone,go for it!

I'm looking at a manual, I have driven manuals before but they were all cheap beaters that you can start in 3rd gear

The whole time I've been debating which one I should get, it sucks that I can't test drive one right now cause I'm stationed in Japan and I'm going to Delaware in January and I'm going to go home to Virginia and pick up the mustang and drive it up to Delaware. That 4 1/2 hour drive (according to map quest) should be pretty fun with a new mustang. I can't wait to get my hands on one.

If you can afford it, go for the V8. You won't regret it. My first mustang is my 2012 GT. Not only did I go from a 148 HP 4 banger to a 412 HP V8, but I also learned how to drive stick shift in the process (mustang is my first manual tranny). It didn't take me long to get used to the car, and the big change made me appreciate the mustang even more. I love this car lol.

Thanks, I feel pretty good about the GT now since you went from a low hp to a higher hp and with learning how to operate a stick on it

Np. You should be fine as long as you keep your foot off the gas until you get used to the car. You're going to have a hard time doing this after you go WOT for the first time lol. Good luck! I'm sure you're going to enjoy it.

Re: Which should i get for my first Mustang V6 or GT 2012?

every person is different, if you plan to modify and enjoy the car and the performance aspect then the GT is the way to go, if you want something more gas friendly, looks about the same (after a few little mods) and dont mind the hp/tq difference and dont plan to want the extra hp/tq then the V6 might work best.

I would recommend the GT if you plan to do car shows and events as well

If you are going to Delaware, I assume you are USAF...therefore, you are probably getting stationed at Dover AFB. It cheaper to buy a car there than in VA. The dealership is about 5 miles from the base on South Dupont Highway.

My 2011 GT was my first mustang. I got it after coming home from Korea. Prior to that I was driving a 1998 dodge intrepid.

Moral of the story?

From a guy that was in nearly your exact situation....get the GT!

Get the GT. If you get the V6 you will spend money to make it a GT. If you get the GT you can spend that money of aesthetics.

I do this! The main thing I'm wondering about is the jump from me driving low hp 4-6 cylinder regular cars to jumping to a GT 400+hp sports car

You'll absolutely love it. Just don't get out of control and be responsible with the power. But gt is the way to go

First things first, Welcome! You may have already introduced yourself and I didn't see it. You've come to the right place. I wish I would have found this site before I bought my Mustang.

And GTstang 07 is right! There is nothing wrong with a V6, it's a great car, but if your gonna do it and you can afford the difference go for the V8! I came from a 1997 Sebring JXI (V6) convertible to a 2006 Mustang V6 Convertible. I will say that not all V6's are created equal the Mustang is quite a car. Personally I wish I would've bought an 03 or 04 GT and saved for an '11 or '12 GT.
