Re: 2012 Mustang GT Suspension

I'd take it back to the dealer and let them check it out.
It may be nothing serious, but jic it is.

I have a 2012 5.0 and had the exact same issue. Took to dealer and had my lower control arm bushing replaced. Haven't heard that dreadful sound since!

Same issue right off the lot. Took it to the dealer and there is a TSB for this noise. I'm taking it in on Thursday.

Is this tsb only for '12s? Or '11s also?

I have a 2011, and the dealer told me about the TSB; he didn't specify.

So are they supposed to contact you about that type of stuff or do you just go in? Do they replace the part regardless or only if there is an issue?

For a TSB, you will need to take it in. I simply asked for a mechanic to go for a test drive with me so he could hear the noise. From there, I left the car with him so he could look it over. After a couple hours, I went to pick up the car and was told the lower control arm bushings were the cause. They ordered replacement control arms, and scheduled me for the maintenance. I personally don't think there is any danger, just an annoying noise. Any service department should get you right in.

To answer your last question, it all depends on the service department and mechanic. They will only fix what they find; in my case they narrowed it down to the left control arm, but are changing both at my request. When I first asked him if he could change both, he was reluctant, but after I threw in a case of beer, he agreed.

I've got mine down at the dealership right now getting my wheels painted and 10k service.. Only have 9k though.. I haven't noticed the noise yet i just didn't know if they assume that was a defective part on all stangs or they just wait for the issue to come up and you bring it in..

We should actually start a thread on what a case of beer will get you. I have been stationed all over the country, and have always heavily modified my cars. I have never been turned away, and I attribute the to simply bringing the service manager and mechanic beer anytime I see them.

I read about your wheels pitting, what do you think the cause was? I am assuming that they are clear coated and ahold be protected for the elements. You think it could be heat related go the Brembos?

Ya I'm in pretty well down at the dealership.. My mom was the secretary there like 15 yrs ago lol.. And she got the current F&I guy his job.. So I get what I want usually.. And I've also bought 4 vehicles from there.. 97 Tahoe, 03 gt, 04 gt, and now my '11... As far as the wheels pitting we had a record breaking snowfall this winter and there was salt all over the road for bout a month.. That's my best guess.. I live in AR but I've been down a dirt road maybe 10 times in 2nd gear at 10-15 mph... And it's both front and rear so not from the brembos..

It works for me though really cuz I want black wheels.. And it's free.. They checked into getting the best paint for wheels and a good hard clear so should be ok now.. Never had a problem w my black bullits or black fr500s.. At least not the painted parts.. The clear on the polished lip started coming off both sets though..
