What is your clutch setup? Also do you have a firewall adjuster and aftermarket quadrant? And, what cable are you running?

Re: 04 cobra shifting problems

when I purchased my 03 cobra I had the same issues... turned out the clutch was just unadjusted (clutch quadrant/cable were OEM). If your clutch petal is really low and when you shift you have to push it all the way to the floor you probably have the same issue.

If its the OEM clutch to manually adjust it you need to slide the seat back, raise the steering wheel and then reach in and put your left hand on the clutch, push it in. Notice on the right above the gas petal you will see the white plastic half moon looking thing wit h the clutch cable on it. Hold the quadrant with your right hand.

Slowly ease out the clutch, the quadrant WILL move (rotate what ever) back and you just hold tension on it. This will cause the quadrant to make a noticeable "click" sound. Do this a couple times and test the clutch and continue until happy.

You want about a half inch (at least NO less) of pushing in the clutch from the top before the clutch starts to slip. To test for slip drive the car at 40-50mph etc hold the gas steady and ease in the clutch, when the rpms start to jump the clutch is slipping.

This WILL raise the clutch up and make it high... its just part of it. If you shift REALLY hard (push in the clutch petal hard) it may nonadjustable itself... mine does now and again.

If you ever put your foot under the clutch petal and raise up it will unadjust itself.

Re: 04 cobra shifting problems

Probably one of the best mods for these cars is a firewall adjuster and quadrant. Makes worlds of difference in clutch feel and you can move the clutch level higher or lower depending on your driving style. I like mine right up top and was able to adjust exactly for that for powershifting.

Hey NickGeezy,
Lowfyn and SpectorV have been very helpful to me in the last year after I bought my 03 Cobra. Good guys and lot of good info! Let us know your outcome as well!

Re: 04 cobra shifting problems

I would have went with an aftermarket adjuster but... I hate petal flop and the correct adjustment requires the petal to be HIGH due to the slack you have to take out of it... MaximumMotorsports makes a petal height adjustment thing but not sure how well it works.
