If you're going to buy one I suggest you don't buy the cheap ones they don't always work that well.

The only bad thing is sometimes you rely on it way too much. Also when the cop has their gun on standby mode your radar/laser detector won't pick it up.

One brand I personally don't like is cobra they work when they are brand new but slowly it seems like they wear out and don't work as well.

Yeah I can see that happening. And I'll look into cobra ones. Thanks

Passport 9500ix is the god of all radar detectors. If you're gonna buy one, that is the one to get and it's worth every cent.

The passport right below the 9500ix is very reliable too. I can't remember the name right off hand. Passport is the leader as far as radar detectors are concerned. They're pricey but worth it. I dnt have much experience with any other brands, I'm sure there are plenty of other that are comparable. I can't quite bring myself to spend the money on one cuz I'm not finished with mods for my car, so id rather spend my money elsewhere. I have some friends with passports tho. Everyone loves them

Yeah it's pretty pricey. I had $600 in my mind for some reason but I'm sure I'm a little off.

I have a 9500ix and I really like it. It has pretty good range and has picked up radars way before I could see them. The gps is also a great feature if you are ever doing city driving because without it the detectors can get extremely annoying. It was definitely an expensive addition to the car but I would recommend it if you have the money. If you get one don't rely completely on it but it does give you a much better sense of security when you're driving. Oh and one more thing to consider is not speeding, its a really cheap way to avoid a ticket without a radar detector lol

They have one at my local audio shop for sale..I can't remember the name. I will try to stop by to find out tomorrow. But according to the brochure, the manufacturer of the radar detector is so confident that u won't get a ticket, they will pay for the speeding ticket if u ever do get one. Lol. I'll try to find out what the brand is

If you don't speed in your mustang from time to time then why aren't you in a focus instead lol.

How much did you get yours for? I like that every week passport updates their data base and you can download all their new content. It will pretty much never be outdated, atleast not until radar technology totally changes.

I paid full price for mine at best buy it was 500. And then I paid another 40 or something so I could hardwire it and mount it to the mirror in my car.

2 in a matter of 2 days one the day before thanksgiving and one the day after. the first one I was going 20 over so I accepted that. the second one was for goin 10 over. And he said he had to give me a ticket because they were pulling cars over and what not and if it was any other day he would have let me go with a warning. It's all just bs just to meet his quota. I told my parents about the first one and not the second one.

I had an Escort 8500, back years ago when it was Escort's top ****. They'll save you. They'll also give you a false sense invincibility. Worth it? Maybe.

Have that one myself. The only one to get period. But if you don't want to spend that much look into the 8500 x50 still one of the best detectors out there. Either way you wont go wrong.

Re: Radar detector

hey guys-
im ready for a new one myself. as not willing to spend 500, but need something with above average rating, i am looking at bel rx65 i think it is, and the 8500 x50. for the money, looks these got better reviews than the higher end cobra units. looks like best prices around are on amazon if ur interested.

i was initially gonna try and keep it around $150-175, but then decided might be worth the while to spend a couple extra bucks on the better unit without getting into the top of the line escort or bel units.

if anybody got any personal exp w/either of these, let us all know... thx!

My first one was the 8500 x50 loved it. It is prolly the highest rated one in the price range you are trying to stay in. My brother has the bell you are looking at. I'll ask him what he thinks.
