Cobra or gt

I am looking to upgrade soon and hit a fork in the road what would be my best bet performance wise between a 03 or 04 cobra or a 2010-2012 gt.

Re: Cobra or gt

Honestly I would rule the 2010 GT out...it has the 315hp 4.6L that's nowhere near the performance of the 2011+ 5.0 or the 03/04 4V 4.6L.

The 03/04 Cobras are probably the best bang for your buck mustang out there...however they are 8-9 year old cars so keep that in mind, the technology is outdated but the powertrain is reliable and strong. The technology in the 2011's is pretty sweet and the 5.0's are incredible.

For 18-24k, you can get a decent Cobra, low to fair miles and probably lightly modded..the bone stock ones are holding the most value for obvious reasons.

I'd say for the same money it'd be tough to get a 2011 GT with options, unless it had higher miles. You'd have to do some searching in your area and see what the market is for used 2011's.

I'm sure some current 03/04 Cobra and 2011+ GT owners will have some input...the best advice might come from someone who owned a cobra and now owns a 2011 GT.

Re: Cobra or gt

Mach 1: shaker scoop, I believe the crank is the only forged internal, and I've heard the autos are all cast, no forged crank.

Live axle, 5spd, different seats, speedometer, C pillars, misc body panels.

Cobra: M112 supercharger, forged bottom end, 6spd, IRS

I believe both have 13" twin piston calipers up front.

I'm sure there are other details I'm missing that the cobra/mach guys could fill in.

Well they are and they aren't...really depends on how you break it down comparatively to other Machs or to other production stangs. For example, the color and transmission...an oxford white with an auto is pretty rare...a torch red with a 5spd, not as limited regarding Mach 1 production.

The overall production of the Machs for those 2 years was much less than your standard v6/GT models and even cobras in 03.

Either way they are badass cars and I've love to own an Azure Blue 5spd some day.

Oh I get what you mean, I thought you were referring to the Machs.

Yah that extra gear must feel nice...definitely needed with that powerhorse.

Re: Cobra or gt

I think it comes down to.... 9 year old car (even though very easy to make great power) is still 9 years old. You would have to look for a VERY nice one at that and expect to spend 20-25k depending.

For a new GT expect 26-39k depending on what all you get.
