0-60 machine

What mods are needed to make a 0-60 machine? Basically street light to street light I want to accelerate fast but I don't want 1/2 mile type endurance.
What mods would be good if you were looking to make your car one of these?

I got my gears at latemodel for 140 shipped
Gear oil at pepboys 70 dollars
Install kit 30 dollars at AM ( only this kit for low mileage cars, other wise get the bearing kit )
And pro install 250 dollars @deans performance

So 490 is about what I paid

Re: 0-60 machine

Performance mods will only void the warranty IF the dealer can prove the mods caused a failure. Of course, there are crooked dealers that will try just about anything to get out of warranty work, including bullying customers into believing their mods voided the car's entire warranty.

As far as gears are concerned, $490 installed is about right. The parts are not very expensive, but the specialized labor is what costs you. It is not a job for the weekend shade tree enthusiast to try at home.

We just put 4.10s in my daughter-in-law's '88 GT. We just swapped the whole rearend. I can tell you, it made a HUGE difference in the performance!

When I did my gears for the first time I actually thought it wasnt to bad.IMO as long as you are mechanically inclined and have a good understanding with working on critical measuring.you will be fine.also having access to a few special tool and you should be able to handle them.but if you can find a reputable shop to do the install for under 300$ labor then it may be worth it. Like I said this is just my opinion.

Re: 0-60 machine

I have done them at home, too. After I bought a hydraulic press, a dial indicator, a magnetic mount, shims, a pinion depth gauge, and a set of set-up bearings, I could have paid a professional to do it.
Just my opinion, gears are like dentistry- don't do it yourself.

Ya it's not hard, just the tools needed and helps to have lift, I did them my self before, but this time around I didnt have a garage or a other car to drive, and I can afford to pay someone 250 to do it so ehh

250 is worth it.

I did mine without a lift or press.the bearings can be removed with a good puller and or bearing seperator.the master install kit comes with shims.basically if you can get a micrometer and dial indicator it can be done.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all.I have done a lot of rolling mill and big motor gearbox alignments through my current and previous jobs.so this kind of work I am pretty used to.so me personnaly didn't have to much of a problem.plus I am just the diy kind of guy.

I certainly meant no disrespect. It sounds as though you are no newcomer to precision work.

Lmao. I guess that's one way to lose ur virginity.
I think if I change the gear to 4.10 I lose the warranty since its not a ford approved gear.
