Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975

What does everyone think about this topic? I just discovered it and wonder who else knew and what is your own point of view??

Well this is what i just kinda knew/found out a little more infomation about it somewhat protects us when we mod our cars and still have a warrenty

it declares we can mod our cars (depending on how big i think) that they cant just look at it and say the warrenty is voided but they have to prove that the mod or aftermarket part was the direct cause of the problem.

one insert from one site,
Magnuson-Moss Act

Nearly everyone has heard about someone who has taken a vehicle that has been modified with aftermarket parts to a dealer for warranty service, only to have the dealer refuse to cover the defective items. The dealer usually states that because of the aftermarket parts the warranty is void, without even attempting to determine whether the aftermarket part caused the problem.

This is illegal

One example from,
Warranty and Aftermarket Parts

You install an aftermarket air dam system to channel more air to the cold air intake system that you installed. The air dam system causes the vehicle to overheat because it restricts airflow over the radiator. As a result of overheating, the engine blows a head gasket and a cylinder head is warped. The car is still under warranty. You take it to your dealer and they determine that the aftermarket air dam system caused the overheating and thus the cylinder head damage and gasket failure. The carmaker is not obligated to perform any repairs under the provisions of the warranty.

Re: Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975

I had to remind my local dealership of the Moss Act when I took my car in for the airbag recall. They noticed that I had an aftermarket cold air kit. They asked if I had a tune to go with it. I said yes, and then they said I had voided my warranty. WRONG!!!!! They changed their minds when they got a call from the Bureau of Automotive Repair....
