Carbon Fiber hoods

R they dependable? What r the benefits? My uncle said that some fibers will chip paint bc when u close ur hood, it will have a tremble when it closes causing chiped paint, is this true, any other facts would b most helpful

Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

Most stock hoods tremble, some less obvious.

Hood pins help tremendously with wobble but being so light they simply wobble. A properly manufactured and fitting hood has the tiniest gap between body panels so you won't scratch. Unless you are talking about painting the CF hood itself, which in turn I suppose it could happen if it shakes tremendously. Not a common complaint so I'd say buy a quality hood and you'll be ok but what year is your stang? That alone can determine if the hood is worth getting.

Are you doing it for looks or weight savings?

Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

I guess research the weight savings as well. On the S197 the savings is minimal as I was surprised to find that our stock hood isn't as heavy as it looks. I plan on doing a CF cowl hood. Looks alone is worth it haha

I just sold my harwood 4in carbon fiber cowl hood that you see in my picture. My only issue was the previous owner didnt take care of it and it was faded really bad. Other the that i had issues what so ever it had great fitment and looked awesome. You get what you pay for though and on my 99-04 5.4 swapped GT i had a GTS 111 Shelby style hood it cost me 636 dollars and was well worth the cash.

It's a nice lookin' hood, but just doesn't flow with the lines of the new edge in my opinion.
