Help! 1st gear issue / 5th gear grinding

Hi, new to the forums as this is my first mustang. I have a 2010 V6 manual mustang. Bought it with 39k miles, it now has 46k. Mainly highway though. I'm having two problems.

Every once and a while I can't put the car into first. I've tried going from second to first, neutral to first, letting the clutch out in neutral then trying and nothing works.

Second issue is VERY often it grinds going into 5th. I've tried double clutching but that doesn't always help. The only thing I've noticed that does help SOMETIMES is if I hold the clutch in and very slowly shift into 5th. All my other gears are fine. My rear transmission seal is leaking, which I'm replacing next week. Fluid are always topped off, oils changed every 3k miles. I really don't beat on it.

Any ideas on what could be doing this? It's been going on since I got the car a few months ago. Thanks !

Re: Help! 1st gear issue / 5th gear grinding

Had similar issue going into 5th from 4th and 6th....4100 miles on 2012 GT Premium

Dealer dropped tranny and informed me that material defect on shift.....asked me if I rested my hand on shifter and informed me that even "slight" pressure on it can cause premature failure.

Man those Chinese must be using real cheap M.O.C.
