That's the thing... You can't tell until you actually remove the whole thing... I know a guy that tried to remove it and the paint didn't come out even with the rest of the door (paint should still be good underneath since its been covered all these years, the rest of the door paint was a bit faded)

My car had always been garage-kept (garage at home and basement parked at work) so I was lucky everything came out even.

You could try, but I highly doubt it's going to look like how it was... That strip has a thin strip of metal support behind it that bends and gets messed up as you pull the ding guard off. I just dumped them after.

I finished my bumper painting!! Check this out! Used 3 cans of primer, 2 cans of base, 1 can of clear, glaze putty, body filler, fiberglass, 180, 220, 320, and 600 grit sand paper.
