Stubborn Windshield Wipers

Since I've had the car, about 3 of 5 times I needed the wipers they didn't want to work. Twice this week I was in neutral and went to turn on the wipers before putting the car in gear. I would flip the switch to "slow" and nothing happened. So I would turn the switch all the way to "fast" just to see if maybe the time delay was goofed up, and nothing. Finally I said screw it and went about my business. Well, while driving I decided to try them again, still no show. I left it on slow to see how long it would take them to cut on. No longer than 5 min. they decided to work. There are times, like this morning, where I had no problem using them on demand.

Obviously this is either a switch or electrical quirk somewhere. Any ideas from the bullpen on what I should check? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

Re: Stubborn Windshield Wipers

Next time it acts up like this, try tapping on the wiper motor with a screwdriver/hammer, that's where I would start anyhow...

Re: Stubborn Windshield Wipers

Check the fuse and replace it even if it looks good. Turn the windshield wipers on high or low , then pop the hood and locate the windshield wiper motor (it will be located on the firewall (drivers side). Grab a screwdriver, and with the handle end, moderately tap several times on the housing.
If the wipers move, you need a new motor. If it doesn't move, check voltage to the windshield wiper motor to insure power is getting to it. If it's not getting power you'll need to trace the lines from the wiper motor

If the fuse is blown, the wipers won't work intermittently

Re: Stubborn Windshield Wipers

the wiper motor is under the cowl and is a major pain to get to. Its probably what the issue is unless the switch is going bad (which could also be the issue) and the switch isnt to bad to get to I dont think.
