Electrical / Wiring question

NEW to the forum. Just bought a 1996 GT Convertible. It's a mess, but has potential.

The radio in was not hooked up. As I began my journey looking at the wiring, I removed some trim panels to see where all the aftermarket wiring is being run. I found this in the following pictures. Any ideas as to what it is...?
