Just fishtailed for the first time

Not gonna lie, it was kinda scary. I was panicked because a random hurricane was brewing out of nowhere and my car was parked outside my parents' house all exposed to the elements. So I jump in and start driving him to the safety of his garage (5 minutes away). The roads are completely dry at this point, but I make a left turn and there's a big sprinkle puddle that I didn't notice in time. Rear tires are gone. I wasn't turning THAT fast, but I would have gone slower had I known the puddle was there. There was a car driving next to me, luckily I don't drive like a girl (jut kidding girls, kind of) and reacted perfectly. The worst part is, my car got wet anyway. I just finished frantically drying it off.

I wish I had cool pictures to go with my story, but I don't so I'm just going to post some random pictures I took of it earlier tonight and the shirt I just got in the mail.

Awesome. Im glad I'm not the only who hated when their car gets wet. Way to handle it with composure. I've deliberately fishtailed in every ride I've owned except for my current Mustang. I'm still treating it with alot if respect because I think a fishtail would turn into a 360 in this beast.

Find your local SCCA & autocross a couple of times. That gives you a safe, controlled environment to deliberately take the car to the limit, and spin it. I still need to get mine out dodging cones--until then I'm taking it easy.

Oh, same here. I went from 175 horses to 412 (and still go back and forth). Big change, haha.

Re: Just fishtailed for the first time

My first fishtail was less than a year ago. Made a U-turn at 40-45mph, on a wet road. After the turn, I could feel the car going sideways, and I was terrified that I'd grind against the railing. I was easing on the steering wheel, easing on the clutch, easing on the brake.... Thankfully traction control kicked in, and straightened the stang out.

My own stupidity, but it happens. Yet for some weird reason, I was laughing after that. It WAS actually...kinda...fun...? lol

...and now you get the whole performance car & hooliganism thing. Be careful, it's addictive.

Lol.. You guys don't live in cold places do you?

Here in Wisconsin fishtailing is a way of life. We're out here doing 60 in a foot of snow lmao.

If I had a nickel for everytime I've fishtailed...

4 sets of rear tires, replacing one wheel, an axle shaft and one panhard bar. Driving like a hooligan is addictive I'd say.

ROFL. And expensive.

Cranker: Nah. I have to go seek out snow in the winter. I am one of those bastages that could play in the snow in the morning & go for a swim in the ocean in the afternoon.

Re: Just fishtailed for the first time

Great advise! You must learn to power drive your car! the rear end is very whip like on these Stangs. Practice and training is a must. Find a school for performance and invest in your driving future!

Exactly. One winter and you'll never worry about fishtailing again. It will become 2nd nature to correct it.

OP, did you plastidip the Faux Gas cap or did you paint it?

Where in Wisconsin? I'm next door in Minnesota.

The stang gets put away when the snow flies but the F150 loves fishtailing in the fresh stuff. Nothing like steering with the throttle.
